Can I Tow?

As someone who actually paid for the Tow Package, I would hope that Tesla would at least charge you guys for the difference between the Accessory Hitch and the Tow Package to turn that bit of software on. :p

That being said, it certainly looks like you've got the full tow package hardware and all that's needed is to add that bit to the software.

Cheers!

The Tow Mode that is shown should be shown in all vehicles and used for servicing when getting towed by a flatbed. Not for towing a trailer or boat.

Look at page 12-13.

According to Telsa site, adding the tow package adds not only the accessory hitch but towing software and steel reinforcement to support the additional load. That is what the extra $550 is for while the accessory hitch can be added to any X for $200 since the standard hardware is there already.

I also paid for the towing package (and obviously was quite vocal about others doing so) - but I take the opposite approach. Whatever you got, you deserve it! We all have dealt with early delivery issues and getting an extra here or there is a perfectly acceptable perk. I've got my active spoiler.. no complaints there.

(BTW, I realize @goneskiian is joking..)

We made the differentiation between Tow Mode and Trailer Mode on the first page of this thread, thanks.

So far there does not seem to be a hardware distinction between the Tow Package and the Accessory Hitch, despite "what Tesla says" which is the point of this and other threads.

Actually, I wasn't but it's no skin off my back. As a stock holder I'd like to see them maximize revenue though and that $550 per X could add up. Yeah, now I just reaching Ha!:p;)

Does Tesla sell the lunchbox? I only ordered the Accessory Hitch so I understand me not getting one. But @ohmman paid for the full tow package so he should have gotten one. My serivce center didn't give any swap when I picked up my Model X. The Delivery Specialist just walked out with the two keys and handed them to me and started to go over the features of the car. I didn't even get the box that the keys come in. :-( Oh well, I did get an Active Spoiler with my 90D!

I also went with the accessory hitch but got the lunch box

It is my understanding that the "lunch box" wasn't initially available, so deliveries during the first 3-4 months of this year didn't likely get one. I only saw people indicating that they got them later on (after May maybe, totally going on memory). No harm is asking Tesla...

I don't remember where I read this, but someone said that you can "unlock" the trailer software by plugging in the wiring harness. Not sure if it's true or not, but it might be worth a shot @K-MTG . That still doesn't solve the unknown if there is any special reinforcement necessary to tow a trailer vs the accessory hitch.

Like I said above, that's kinda the point of these threads, so far there is no evidence the "Accessory Hitch" hardware even exists. Sure people have ordered it but so far all evidence points toward the "Tow Package" hardware being the same as the "Accessory Hitch" hardware.

It seems silly to have been given a hitch (in a lunchbox no less) and not the software so I would like to see this proven one way or the other.

If and when I get my sunshade I will gladly trade it for a lunchbox. (I asked Tesla and they said no to a swap).
