Car needing repairs before collection? (Cancelled on Teslas' side) [resolved-resolved]

Maybe I should clarify what I mean by 'met' - I'm only referring to Tesla owners I have talked to in person (all in the USA, my Daughters' Model X, two friends Model 3s, a Model Y purchased by another after I was last there & half a dozen owners at a parking lot Tesla meet up - each had needed varying degrees of remedial work on new cars).

My own car was near perfect on delivery as I suspect many are and I'm a huge fan of these vehicles but I was under no illusion pre delivery that there might well be some problems to iron out (two SC/Ranger appointments sorted mine easily and fast).

@OneTinyFish your alternative is to formally reject and request refund as you are within 7 days of the proposed collection date, and even if you weren't they haven't delivered their part of the contract.

take the money away from them if you need to.

I did say this yesterday and they said I wouldn't need to do that because they'll call me back in the morning with a solution.

...the morning's gone.

It's good to hear of your experience @Dilly in that you've got a nearly perfect car. It's the opposite experience of mine which involves paying for a car I've not seen and promises of callbacks don't always happen.

I appreciate that the parts have to come from the US but surely there should be a repository of parts close to the service centres where they are used. Elon was talking about this last night; having a factory on each continent to reduce the time from order to money in the bank.

My situation is the inverse of this; they've got the money but I haven't got a car.
I do have a shed load of sympathy for you. Buying a Tesla shouldn’t be a lottery and they should pull out all the stops to make it right for you.
It will be no consolation but back in the 80’s I ordered my first brand new car; a Ford Escort with some extra factory fitted options. After a 12 week wait it arrived at the dealership but without all the options. The dealership’s typist didn’t put them on the order! Had to wait another 12 weeks! When it did arrive the heater didn’t work. Since then until the M3, I’ve always bought used cars. They always had their faults iron out by the time I bought them. We don’t yet have that luxury with M3’s
I do hope you get a swift result.

Do you still have that Ford Escort? It might be worth a small fortune by now!

I last bought a brand new car back in 2005 after buying a new car every year. From Hyundai to Toyota it was always a seamless experience. No frills but no problems that I can remember.

Occasionally there would be flowers in the boot. I'm not sure if this is still a 'thing'.

Reminiscent of when my ex-brother-in-law bought a brand new Montego. When he went to pick that up from the dealer he was told they'd been too busy to PDI his car properly. He went out to look at it and all the bits that the dealer is supposed to fit during PDI, like wheel trims etc, were sat in the boot in plastic bags . . .

It certainly seems like the last couple of weeks in the quarter are the worst time to get a Tesla. The priority seems to be to deliver cars no matter what, just so they can meet Wall Streets delivery expectations. You get the impression they'll let anything out of the Factory just to make the numbers. I remember seeing a report of a 'leaked' email from Elon saying that reworks were one of the major bottlenecks and the priority should focus on reducing them - it almost looks like they decided to just ship everything rather than rework them. My car is 3 weeks old and is awaiting a mobile visit to fix an issue with one of the cameras, but at least it's usable.

It must be a very frustrating situation, probably only resolvable by demanding your money back, due to the lack of inventory.

Hi @AndyF, that's definitely true. Coming up to the end of the quarter - especially the UK reg quarters 2 and 4 are the worst time to buy a new Tesla or indeed get service on an existing one. There aren't any ships, so there aren't any cars and there aren't (m)any parts.

I've asked my Tesla delivery rep to enquire about a performance 'upgrade' as there are a few of those in the inventory. If they're happy to switch me at a discount and I can get those 20" pothole-finders off for 18/19" aftermarket alternatives, then we might have a solution.

Otherwise, it's refund time. I ordered end July, and it's been fun watching folks get their model 3s but maybe the EV gods still need me to stick with diesel for a little while longer...

Update for future forum searchers!

I appear to no longer have a Tesla account.

I can't log in on the website;

Yes I can second that, Bex (Becks'?) at Stockport was really helpful with mine too and helped track the car, arranged the registration etc.

If you've been dealing directly with that SC then I found Daly & Carli in Sales to be truly exceptional, nothing was too much trouble and they always called me back. Paul the Manager was also very proactive.
