I think the cigarette argument is a little weak.
You can agree that FF has helped standards of living a tremendous amount and you can also feel like their time is done.
Energy is really helpful but energy can come from different sources and also should not be wasted.
And the benefits of FF certainly do outweigh industrial accidents. But moving forward, they are responsible for greater damage than their benefit. Especially given the alternatives that are currently available and economically feasible.
The only real barrier now is people who have financial futures tied to FF. Old white men from Texas come to mind....

Maybe, but cigarette FUD was one of the more egregious, orchestrated campaigns by hugely wealthy corporations bent on denying reality. Many of the techniques used have transferred neatly over to FF FUD.

That's the point, the "earth" will exist without us but if we change the environmental conditions on which we depend we might not survive. Seems like a really stupid risk to take when there is no need to. Stop pumping greenhouse gasses into the air, as well as pollutants, and switch to renewable energy, just in case. You might not get cancer from cigarettes but most people know enough to avoid the risk just in case. There is no downside to the transition to renewable fuels only short term challenges which we can address.

I assure you. Texans are not the only people in the world who have futures tied to FF. I never have complained about alternative sources of energy. What I do complain about are a bunch of silly "know-it-all" liberals who think they can tell everybody else what kind of energy they should be permitted to use. People like me strongly prefers scientists, engineers, and the free market to sort out the energy needs of the world.
Cigarettes are more of an issue related to alcohol. As a matter of fact, there is a law enforcement agency that has the words Alcohol and Tobacco in it. Only from the Land of Liberaldom are cigarettes tied to fossil fuels and climate.
You call the list of numbers useless because it does not support your silly idea that the Arctic ice is melting away to oblivion.

Oil majors are mainly interested in getting car and truck drivers to buy their gasoline and diesel. They also like to tout their alternative energy research.
That was a dumb comment. That's like saying just as long as an airplane crash or a fatal car crash happen to people you don't care about.
