After the UN's COP28 climate talks in Dubai, Saudi Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman immediately played down the text, insisting it would have "no impact on exports" from the country that ships more oil than any other. Same happened in Norway.

Saudi Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman thinks that COP28 didn't take place.

This is not good.

Queensland, Australia has a new climate champion in charge! On day 1 as Premier, Steven Miles unveiled a new, ambitious target to cut GHG pollution 75% by 2035. I know there's more to come and hope his leadership inspires others across Australia and around the world! (Took by a tweet of Former Vice President Al Gore)

This is good!

What No One at COP28 Wanted to Say Out Loud: Prepare for 1.5 Degrees

For a historic text, the language was quite mealy-mouthed, since the resolution only “calls on” nations to “contribute” to “transitioning away” from fossil fuels — and only in the energy sector. Harder-line climate advocates had been pushing for a language of “phase out,” which might have helped tug the world a little bit more quickly to a postcarbon future. Instead, what they got was much more like an endorsement of the status quo, reflecting the ongoing state of play rather than accelerating it, because such a transition is already well underway.

Instead, most analysts predict a global peak in fossil fuel emissions at some point over the next decade, followed not by a decline but a long plateau — meaning that, every year for the foreseeable future, we would be doing roughly as much damage to the future of the planet’s climate as was done in recent years. The expected result: end-of-century warming between 2 and 3 degrees Celsius.

The report also collated an entire scientific literature about the two warming levels, which has only grown since. Between 1.5 degrees and 2 degrees, it is estimated, more than 150 million people would die prematurely from the air pollution produced by the burning of fossil fuel responsible for that level of warming. Around the world, flooding events that used to arrive once a century, typically marking local cultures or even whole civilizations for generations, would instead strike annually — and in some places more often than that. Going from 1.5 degrees to 2 degrees, most scientists believe, would be a death sentence for the world’s coral reefs. And many believe that, in that range, the planet will lock in the permanent loss of many of its ice sheets, which could bring, over centuries, enough sea level rise to redraw the world’s coastlines.

Actually I think that this a crystal clear description of what will happen. IMO the only hope for mankind is a UN resolution which will impose a drastic cut of Carbon Emissions.

Unfortunately the UN is relatively powerless and is under control of the capitalists.
Sorry but I disagree with you. Already now the US Department of Defense considers the Climate Change issue a threat bigger than terrorism. I am sure that when the Temperature Deviation will overtake the threshold of 1.5 degrees Celsius set by the Agreement of Paris and the world will be threatened by the Climate Change issue the UN SECURITY COUNCIL will take the needed actions.

Report this link concerning the commitment that the US Department Of Defense (DOD) has about the Climate Change issue.

Luckily we are not alone to fight the Climate crisis.

Elon is in Rome (Italy) right now! Happy that Elon said in Rome, where I live, this:

Elon Musk, founder of electric car maker Tesla has stated that oil and petrol should not be demonised in the medium term, but stressed about the need to cut carbon emissions in order to protect the environment.

Musk was speaking at a right-wing political gathering organised by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni's Brothers of Italy party.

During the gathering, he said, "Climate change alarm is exaggerated in the short term," adding that the environmental movement may have gone too far, causing people to lose faith in the future.

I would like to point out that Elon says that the Climate Change alarm is exaggerated IN THE SHORT TERM, meaning that when the threshold of 1.5 degrees Celsius set by the Agreement of Paris will be overtaken it will not be exaggerated anymore.
Of course Elon would like an immediate phase-out from fossil fuels but this is not possible.
The phase-down (reduction) of fossil fuels burning is necessary before to get the phase-out from fossil fuels.

The president of the Cop28 climate summit Sultan Al Jaber will continue with his oil company’s record investment in oil and gas production, despite coordinating a global deal to “transition away” from fossil fuels.

This is not good!

With reference to the investments that the COP28 President Sultan Al Jaber is doing in oil and gas I would like to remind to the COP28 President Sultan Al Jaber that

It's not an investment if its destroying the planet."
~Vandana Shiva.

If you will get a solar rooftop and an EV for you it will be the beginning of a NET ZERO lifestyle.
Then if you will produce more energy than you use you may also get a NEGATIVE CARBON FOOTPRINT and implement CARBON SEQUESTRATION.
In fact you will give to the grid Energy that will be used by somebody else.
And you will also save money.

So Elon thinks that all of the fires, floods, people dying in heat waves, etc. is not a problem?

It was a speech at political level. We have the threshold given by the Agreement of Paris for the Temperature Deviation of 1.5 degrees Celsius.
Elon cannot be alarmist till when the threshold will not overtaken.
Main thing is that Elon warned Italian politicians about the potential danger of the Climate Change issue.
Please keep in mind that we cannot get an immediate phase-out from fossil fuels. It's simply not possible. Elon knows this perfectly.
Our goal is to get a phase-down (reduction) of fossil fuels burning in the short term and more severe Climate actions when the threshold of 1.5 degrees Celsius will be overtaken.
This is maximum goal that we could get IMO and for this reason I think that Elon is doing the right thing.

WHDSF stands for ‘Wildfires, Heatwaves, Droughts, Storms and Floods,’ and is a handy way to remember the range of catastrophic change we’re going through. These are not all of the impacts from fossil fuel fired climate disruption of course (sea level rise and melting glaciers are two more that come to mind), but WHDSF are the most readily recognizable that scientists are able to measure in terms of growth, frequency and intensity.

An article from the Washington Post (gifted so supposedly everyone can use link)
Ice core through Greenland Ice sheet to bedrock to determine if possible last time there was no Ice sheet,
If ice sheet melts oceans as much as 24ft, 7.3m higher

Some coastal areas of Florida could go under water also if the Ice sheet don't melt completely according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

Coastal areas are Florida's most at-risk, and by the year 2100, many of them could be underwater. Sea levels along U.S. coastlines are projected to rise 10 to 12 inches, on average, during the next 30 years, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.Oct 16, 2023

A reason more to fight the Climate Change issue.

The entire state of Florida will be underwater if the Greenland ice sheet melts.
