Dash Cam is coming

So Elon just confirmed on Twitter that a beta dash cam will be available with the version 9 software update. I for one am very much looking forward to this added protection if I ever need to prove who was in the wrong in an insurance claim etc.

Any guesses as to how it will work with accessing footage, and what features it will include? I hope it had a parking feature.

Pure guess- from Tesla account? Transferring to phone would be awkward because of file size though I guess when car is on Wi-Fi that opens options.

My dream would be that you could access the cameras on your car remotely from your phone.

Although I look forward to seeing it, I am not holding my breath for anything remotely close to standard dash cam quality for this.

USB thumb drive storage is the only thing that makes sense to me. Pop a 128 GB drive in and you're good to go.

I dont expect any extreme amount of drive space like 1tb. Its likely possible to be around 128-256gb of m2 socket or nand chip soldered on system board. It can store hundreds hours of video if used with right codec.

Maybe someone who understands better of linux to decipher what tesla OS contains about its hardware and software on the car.

My point is I’m pretty sure they already do, because they use all that data. It’s just a matter of making it available to us.

There is zero chance that it's cloud based. Way too much data!! Maybe you can see a live stream on the app, but it definitely won't stream it to the cloud for storage. My money is firmly on either USB or built-in storage.

Maybe. That would be a crap ton of data to stream even low res video from so many cameras. We know they are collecting data, but it could be just consolidated post processing data from the CPU.

They do not upload a lot of video data. They have a way to trigger scenarios and upload that info in detail.

I watch my network and occasionally see the Tesla sending data up. But it is not huge amounts, except on occasion.
