Debating the switch to 18 inch wheels from the 20 inch inductions

I have no idea why anyone would have bought an earlier version of the Y.

The "comfort" suspension on the '23 MYLR is definitely on the stiffer side. And like you, I'm shocked to hear people say that the new comfort suspension is much better than the older stiff suspension the older MYs came with. I simply cannot imagine how horrible ride quality in those cars are. I don't mind the stiffness of the new suspension much since I prefer my cars have a stiff suspension instead of a wallowy one (like Merc SUVs for example). And pothole riddled roads don't help at all. But yeah. I definitely wouldn't call them "comfort" suspension
And the new M3Highland has a much better suspension. I test drove one a month back and was surprised at how a sedan has a much better ride quality than an SUV!

Okay so I have put over 1000 miles on the new set up. I mostly went with the 18 inch RTX wheels and hankook A/S EVs due to awesome 180 Dollar price match from walmart, wanting to reduce cost of future tire changes, enhance ride quality, enhance winter performance (Madison, WI) and hopefully increase the range even 5-10%.

I can say without hesitation that the 18 inch set up with the hankooks has blown my mind on how much quieter it is inside the cabin. It is quite substantial at highways speeds and it wasn't even something that bothered me in the first place. The ride quality is much smoother and better although my wife said she cant really tell a difference.

In terms of range - hard to tell since it was Jan/Feb. We also didnt do any road trips and the one we just did my wife drove 7 hours both ways and she drives way faster and less efficient than I do. I would say i didnt see an immediate increase but as its warming up and the tires are breaking in - I would say I am seeing an increase but no hard math to point to. Overall, very happy with the choice even if range doesn't improve significantly due to future tire cost reduction, cabin ride and noise, and winter performance.

Love my 18" set up. Just love it.

I'm looking at getting Tein shocks for my Model Y, because of this video, they make it seem like its night and day difference, "almost like an air suspension". "Yeah, it feels like the air suspension in my Mercedes".
Thats a huge exaggeration. You will never get an air ride feeling on this car, but it is a nice improvement from my comfort suspension. Even better improvement from the original suspension.

@Discount Tire, for the Model Y I see 235/55R18 XL recommended when switching down to 18" rims.
However, Hankook doesn't make an Ion Evo in exactly that size.

Would there be any problems putting the Evo SUV 235/65 R18 on a Model 3 gen2 Aero rim for the Model Y?
I'm just looking for summer, comfort, quiet and range and I really don't care about snow, performance or looks.
I won't be towing anything heavier than a couple of bikes.

I too am looking for a similar set-up for the same reasons. I would like a LRR tire option, and was pleased with them on my M3, but do not see that size on Hankook's site.
I see the following:
iON evo AS
235/45R18 XL = 26.33" Diameter tire, 9.25" Width

iON evo AS SUV
225/60R18 XL = 28.63" Diameter tire, 8.85" Width
235/60R18 XL = 29.10" Diameter tire, 9.25" Width

The Stock 19" Tesla Model Y Gemini Aero Wheel has the following:
255/45R19 XL = 28.04" Diameter tire, 10.04" Width Wheel: 45mm offset, 9.5" width

I am considering the TST 18" Tesla Model Y Wheel offered by tsportline, 8.5" width, 35mm offset. I think these look the most "stock", similar to the sport wheel on my 2019 M3LR.

I'm still early in my search, but some things I continue to investigate are tire and wheel width/height compatibility and reduced offset impact on ride quality.

The max recommended tire height for a Model Y is 28.59 inches. A 235/65R18 is 30.03. We would not recommend that tall of a tire for that application.
