Delivery of inventory P100D

I took advantage of Tesla’s sale on the P100D and took delivery on Friday 3/29.

The pre delivery process with my owner advisor was great. Tom called me on 3/22 letting me know of the deal (I had been looking to buy one before finding out of the deal) and walked me through the vehicle options. He stayed with me on the phone while I placed the order and put my deposit.

He was great in walking me through the online steps and as the week went, he updated me on the cars location and delivery date. All I got from the delivery team was a text with a date and time, no option to change and no call. The time worked so I wasn’t too concerned. Day before delivery they called to confirm the appointment and amount I was giving them and that went fine. They offered an Uber from my house to the showroom which I accepted, and I got a link by text to click when I was ready.

Delivery day is when things weren’t so good. I had a 1pm appointment so my wife and I showed up at 12:45. They promptly had me give them the check and sign the documents. I was hesitant to do so before seeing or driving the car but agreed. I didn’t get copies of anything, but most of the docs except the dmv docs were online prior to the sale, so.. eh. Then they say my car isn’t ready yet but should be in about 15 minutes (at 1pm). Ok, so we sit down and wait. Then they come back and say, they’re finishing up with the wash and it’ll be 30 minutes. So given the time we walk across the street to eat and are back at 1:40. Now they say the car is finishing up and being waxed and it’ll be a few more minutes. So we finally get greeted by the delivery specialist at around 2:15. She walks us to the car and lets us know it’s charging but we’re welcome to look it over. We do and find the car is in really great shape and we’re overall impressed. Except for the driver side rear wheel is curbed really bad- the entire wheel. So we point it out, and the delivery person says it’s wear and tear. I disagree and she calls a manager, who says it’s wear and tear as well. I point out to a small wear spot in the interior leather and say that’s wear and tear, but the wheels don’t wear and that was damage from a curb. He insists it’s wear and tear and I started getting a little impatient and told him I want the $4000 back they charged for the 21s and he can throw the 19s on there. He says it doesn’t work that way and being an inventory car with a severe discount this is what I get. I was not happy and expressed so, and he asked for a few minutes and walked away. He comes back and agrees to replace the wheel as a courtesy insisting it’s wear and tear.

After this, they asked if the car was ok, and sent me on my way. That was it for the delivery experience. Pretty shabby, but the car is otherwise fantastic. It drives wonderfully, has no weird noises from drivetrain or wind. No creaks or rattles, and charges to 283 at 90%, which is on par for 315 as advertised for a full charge.

One think I forgot with the rim dilemma was there was no spoiler. I took it as it didn’t have the option but looking through it appears that it’s included on the P cars.

Overall delivery was nothing impressive for buying a $150k sticker car. Granted it wasn’t at retail but even at the price I paid should have warranted a better experience. Now car dealers are terrible and usually take hours on hours, but the interactions are great. This interaction was fine (people were polite and helpful) and I was in and out in about 1.5 hours. So keeping that in mind, except for no one actually going over anything with me and the damaged wheel, the experience was ok.

WOW - great deal! I would have sped out of there and never looked back before someone else offered more. Sucks they made you wait and started on a bad experience.

The Spoiler is included (no charge) with all "P"s, but you can delete it from the build if desired. Mine doesn't have one either and I prefer the slightly increased range over the slightly improved sportiness. There are lots of wheel and spoiler options you can buy with that $60k you just saved! ;-)

Except few details, you described our delivery experience exactly, also on Friday 3/29 @1pm... Actually, in our case I had to get Uber to get my wife home, because she was running late for her call in the hospital. Although, I went there the day before and inspected the car (didn't drive). I gather that few more ppl who got similar cars/deals had similar experience... In addition, the room where you suppose to sign docs for $150K car has worn out cheap furniture, only one table behind the glass door, no privacy whatsoever, where every buyer is congregating within 3 feet from each other, signing private documents on the small coffee table, surrounded by shabby vinyl chairs. We were told to enjoy coffee and water, but there was none... I am going to be there tomorrow, will try to snap some pics. Not even disappointed, rather amused...
Car was vacuumed and cleaned poorly, stuff still in compartments. It seems that Tesla was pushing so hard at the end of the quarter, that everything else, besides the sell itself, was pushed aside.

Congratulations! It looks great and your garage is super clean.

I ordered an inventory P100D but changed to a different one yesterday after they disclosed that there was a ding on the rear fender and refused to fix it due to the discount price. Even with the discount, I don't want to spend $80k and have to do a repair right away. I can understand their position.

That’s really bad. When we walked in, there was a standing round table in the side of the showroom, that’s where we signed our docs. Nowhere to sit or chat, just walk up to the table, pay, sign, and go. I showed up with a check to pay in full so no real personal stuff to go over, but still felt weird. I guess it saves time, and that I’m ok with.

Congrats on the car. I am very new to the Tesla search and purchase process. Is an inventory car the ones listed on the main Tesla website a Used or are they new cars that might have been used for demo's or otherwise not titled?

I have been looking at the Used ones on the TESLA site and the EV-CPO site (which appears to have the same cars).

Thanks

I may be wrong, but when they found one for me, I had a feeling that dealers have access to the car inventory, that prospective buyers don't. At least I didn't find them in my search, yet there were several "demo" cars with very few mile on them, never titled, at crazy discount

There are definitely cars that dealers can see that are not visible on ev-cpo. That's how I found my XP100D that I hope to pick up in a week or so. For example, here's a SP100D my sales advisor found for me that I haven't found on ev-cpo. It wasn't leasable so I didn't take it but if you finance or pay cash it's a good deal. This is new but I'm sure there are used ones that only dealers can see as well.

So Patrikr how did you get that link? From your dealer? That looks like what I see on the Tesla website. I am in Tampa here. They have a showroom in the International Mall. Have to go in and see them to find the "hidden" CPO cars?

Yes, you either have to call or go in and talk to one of the sales advisors at the dealership. I've only done this for new inventory cars but assume it works the same for used cars.

I found a new Tesla Club....the Vexige Vrrooom Society.
I too just picked up a P100D Inventory car (1450 miles).
No privacy, wrong wheels, smelled like spilled milk (I know...did not cry), no spoiler, 1 imperfect key fob, and took 6 hours.
Had it heavily tinted for the Southern Summers, and did a Chrome delete to distinguish it from the oh so similar Black P100D I turned in off lease.
The process of buying was sterling, up until taking delivery; that was Amateur Hour (or 6)
.Absolutely love the car.

I also picked up a P100D inventory car in Vancouver Canada with ludicrous included.
I had the factory swirl marks polished out and the paint protected with Opti-Coat Plus.
It looks spectacular.
However, I may sell it to upgrade to the adaptive suspension announced a few days ago.

I went into the Tesla Showroom in Tampa. The employee said he was an "influencer" and there to talk about the product answer questions etc. We sat at the computer, but he was logging into the Tesla used inventory just like I do. He said he does not get a commission, but some points for "influencing" if I buy. He was going to send me an advisor's name in the West Palm location who would assist in the purchase and they do receive sales commissions. His emails never arrived, but I am not ready to buy (waiting on facelifts) so I did not follow up. Are the sales people not at each location? It was busy so maybe there was one there, but I just got the influencer.
