Door Handles Don't Open When Touched?

I'm curious to know if I'm alone here. I took delivery of a new 75D less than two weeks ago, and I love the car so far. But, for the life of me, I can't get the door handles to open upon touch. They do open as I approach the car, and when I double press on the fob, but pressing on any door handle (with the fob in my pocket) does nothing to open them if they're closed.

I've read the manual up and down, but no clues there. I've been searching around here, and I've found a couple of old threads like this one, but not much about modern models having the problem:

Seems like a trip to the service center is what I need, but I wanted to post here first just in case there's a lead on the issue that I hadn't yet considered.

I read another thread where it said you have to PRESS harder then you think. Like it was changed recently for some reason. I got my car on 9/28 and sometimes it seems like it is not working. But then it does. So, not sure what is happening. I think if it does not work I PRESS harder and it does. I would need to test more.

Do you have a cellphone in the same pocket as the fob? That makes it really hard for the fob to hear the car.

mike - Good tip on pushing harder. I will that one more time, although I already feel like I'm punishing the handle!

murphy - I've done it with a phone on me and without one. Never works either way.

In my experience on the 2013 S85, the open-on-touch only seems to work on the front door handles. So I tend to touch the front door handle even when I simply want to open one of the rear doors.

That makes sense. Unfortunately, even mashing the driver's door handle does nothing.

I have 10/2016 MS, and I have had 2 of the handles changed because they didn’t respond to touch. Both times they said it was a broken pressure sensor, and they replaced the whole handle, not just the sensor.

After I took delivery 28/09/2017 my words to Nick my Delivery Specialist were " pressed the door handle but it wont open" his words were " "Press con Gusto" he came over and did that and it opened.

I know my for sure that my lightweight wife will NOT be able to open it by pressing the handle so I plan to give her the spare 'key' and program the handles to auto present on unlock in her profile otherwise she will have to do the double-click dance.

It takes enough force to make me worried about breaking them.

I agree that the force is too high as I sometimes takes me 2 thumbs to open the door so the plan 'going forward' as is that worn out cliche' goes is to ask the Service Center folks to have a look at it along with a vibration in the LH front suspension.

in the videos that I have seen on YouTube an single 'medium' press with the 2nd finger should make the door handle present itself.

I think this changed with the "passive entry" update. It used to be much easier and consistent. Also there are options about how the handles retract and open in the car settings that might be causing an issue. Check them out.

It works well for me (I don't think it requires that much force at all to press them in to get them to open).

I just took delivery too. I think the trick is to press front and then rear driver's side handle. Maybe an extra security measure. It's different than my "classic" car. Let me know it it works!

I've recently took delivery of my Model S 75D October 2017 build. I'm confused on how the self presenting rear door handles work on touch. My driver side handle will present itself, but when I press the rear handle nothing happens. I've even given it a firm push and it stays retracted. This is happening on both rear door handles. I've also noticed sometimes the front passenger door will stay retracted on a hard firm push. My setting are:

Door unlock Mode - Driver
Walk Away Door Lock - On
Unlock Park - On
Child Protection Lock - Off
Auto Present Handles - On
Passive Entry (Grayed Out) - On

Am I doing something wrong?

I found out from Reddit. Basically just have it self present all door handles. If I idle around the car and the handles retract I can touch the rear door handles and they will present just like the front handles because they became unlocked like the front door handles.

The whole point of only unlocking the driver door is for safety to guarantee you can get in the car and not worry about some bad person getting in one of the other three doors. This feature was added in 2015 or 2016.

I tested my car (2015 70D) and found that touching the front passenger door handle will always unlock the car (and extend the door handles) if the key is present, even if I have the door unlock mode set to Driver only. Touching the rear door handles will not unlock the car, but will extend the handles if the car is unlocked with the handles retracted. This behavior is inconsistent with the way it is supposed to work, as I understand it, but I have not worried about it too much.

Firstly, apologies if this is covered in any other forum.

Needed to go out with the family this morning and when we came to board the car, both passenger door handles would not present. Tried a googled method of release by easing them out but they both were u/s and just returned to the closed position. Decided to facilitate entry by opening the window so that passengers could use the inside handle and - guess what - both windows won't open!

I can only assume that there is a fault of some kind with the nearside electrics. Anyway had to use a taxi (that's not why you buy a Tesla) and will visit the Digbeth, Birmingham SC in the morning to see if they can resolve the situation.

If anyone has any advice, it would be welcome.

Pushing the button on the end of the shift lever will present all of the door handles if the car is already in Park.
