Door Handles Don't Open When Touched?

Firstly, apologies if this is covered in any other forum.

Needed to go out with the family this morning and when we came to board the car, both passenger door handles would not present. Tried a googled method of release by easing them out but they both were u/s and just returned to the closed position. Decided to facilitate entry by opening the window so that passengers could use the inside handle and - guess what - both windows won't open!

I can only assume that there is a fault of some kind with the nearside electrics. Anyway had to use a taxi (that's not why you buy a Tesla) and will visit the Digbeth, Birmingham SC in the morning to see if they can resolve the situation.

If anyone has any advice, it would be welcome.

Thanks
Did you sit in the driver's seat and see if the car would start up? That is, did the MCU fire up, and if so, could you then operate windows, AC, etc.? If you did not try that, you might have given up too soon. The car could have been in a deep sleep, or maybe the MCU was rebooting...Just a guess. Hope whatever it is is easy to fix!

Yes, tried reset, deep reset and locking and unlocking manually and with the fob. Car drives perfectly well it's just very inconvenient (to say the least) to be without the passenger side of the car.

If it wasn't so serious it would be laughable. Be assured I love my Tesla and rate it highly. It just annoys me that things like this can happen to what I believe to be a prestige car.

Really wish they would add a sensitivity button in settings, I want to be able to lightly tap the door handles to open, not have to push them in for the life of me.
The early door handles were touch sensitive(and they broke all the time), the newest configuration seems to be an actual switch that you have to press fairly hard on to actuate.

I have pretty much given up on pressing on my handles to extend them. If I press really hard, they occasionally work, but I have to press with probably close to 50 lbs of pressure. I think that's way too much for pressing on a plastic mechanism, so I resort to the key fob.

Well, I visited the SC at lunchtime and they were unable to help immediately. The earliest they can book me in is June 13th, that's six weeks time, as I need a loan car. In fairness they could have done June 8th without a loan car but even that is over 5 weeks time!

So for the interim period I have to drive a car with no external access or operating windows on the passenger side whatsoever.

Let me say that, even after a couple of years, I'm still completely over the moon with my car. The level of service offered by Tesla however is frankly a complete and utter joke - and not a funny one at that!

There are a lot of upmarket brands coming to the fore as competition for Tesla and whilst their product may not be up to Tesla's standards I'd probably bet my house that their customer service will be better.

Can someone confirm if the newer cars have different door handle sensors? Mine is 2014 and they were able to adjust the sensitivity of the door handles via software. They used to need a little more force, now mine need very little push to present.

The only time you need to do this is when the car is unlocked and the handles go in after about a minute of no activity on the doors. That's a rare situation for me.

Good to know about the sensitivity adjustment. Mine take very little touch to operate, but one is defective and is going to be replaced next week. If it behaves differently, i could ask for an adjustment.

Also, I suppose this is picky, but -- You would also have to do it if you choose the setting to turn off "auto present," which some of us do in winter to provide an opportunity to remove any snow and ice before the handles attempt to actuate. (Other people may have other reasons as well).

After I took delivery 28/09/2017 my words to Nick my Delivery Specialist were " pressed the door handle but it wont open" his words were " "Press con Gusto" he came over and did that and it opened.

I know my for sure that my lightweight wife will NOT be able to open it by pressing the handle so I plan to give her the spare 'key' and program the handles to auto present on unlock in her profile otherwise she will have to do the double-click dance.
I had this on a replaced handle and out of nowhere it finally started opening on light touch today. Just wanted to give others hope.
