Hi everyone,

I am conducting a study on the impact of EVs charging on the electricity network, and I have a question on Dynamic EV Charging.

Dynamic Charging learns how and when you drive and ensures your car is ready to go when you need it for your daily commute, by smoothing out the peaks in electricity demand and saving everyone money on their energy bills. It sounds great for society and could reduce the cost of running your EV electricity bill ...

The theory is that most of the time, Dynamic charging is the same as standard charging. Dynamic Charging typically delays charging until the early hours of the morning and pulls electricity from the grid when fewer people are using it. However, if you need to charge your vehicle in the evenings (e.g. between 4 pm and 10 pm) you might notice that Dynamic Charging doesn’t charge your vehicle as fast during these hours.

Would you be interested in giving Dynamic Charging a go? I'm keen but would love to hear more from everyone else.

Please fill in my poll (it takes only 2 minutes to complete) to let me know what you think, check out my attached survey by clicking the link below or reply with your comments ...

Thanks!

...Dynamic EV Charging...

I don't see how soon it can be available due to prohibitive cost.

I don't know about other locations but locally, I see roads are torn up often to service buried utility services (sewer, water line, gas line...)

Freeways are also often mutilated, lanes are moved every which way for road constructions.

If the electric company wants me to sign up for a program that allows them some control over my charging session, they better give me something in return. That may be a discounted electricity rate, a flat payment anytime they decide to defer my charging to a later time, something... It can't just be a one way street - me give them access to my on-site equipment to adjust my charging as they see fit.

This is exactly why I didn't sign up for the "Watt Saver" program with the local electric company. Voluntary program where they would replace your thermostat with one that they had access to and could remotely cycle the air-conditioning in your house. They tried to make it sound like they were giving you something special. No, the only value you received was a programmable thermostat (worth $20 at a local hardware store) and they then had access to increase the temp in your house at their whim and you were only able to override it on an occasional basis. Again, no thank you.

I like the idea for domestic/@home use. Don't like for commercial use (this will increase the charge time for a station and does not serve the purpose of availability)

I would like to have the option of Dynamic Opt-In where the car charging networks can communicate with the grid monitor real-time usage in the area and if opted (and available in that particular location) will throttle charging rate. For this the GRID will pay the charging network a fee that can be passed back to the consumer a discount for a nominal fee.
