Ear pain/Pressure help

Cabin noise is high in my MY LR with 19" wheels and Continental tires, comparing to other cars I've owned so I'll start on the 5 point plan recommended here:
1) Hatch stop adjustments
2) If still not great, add vinyl tubing in the gasket
3) If you still want improvement, add rigid hatch stops (
3D Printed, Non 3D Printed)
4) If you still want improvement, add a cargo cover
5) If you still want improvement, add sound deadening

However I'd be interested to hear if anyone has mounted 18" wheels on their MY and whether this makes the ride softer and quieter.
Thanks
I went to oversized 18s and was surprised how little it helped. I recently test drive a 2023 MYP with 21s and it's ride was better than my 2022 on 18s.

Thanks for the data point concerning the softer ride. I'll see if I can borrow a set of 18" wheels and try it out. What were the 20" tires that you had before? Do you think that the tire brand is relevant for the softer ride or just the higher sidewall of the 18" tires? Thanks

I posted this in the massive MPP Comfort Coilover thread. I thought it was relevant here.

My hopes were too high and expectations not met with these coilovers. My car's NVH was still uncomfortable. I read the new MYLR suspension is questionably improved and the new MYP is much improved. I test drove a 2023 MYP back-to-back with my 2022 MYLR on MPP Comfort Coilovers set to 14/14 all around. Maybe it was the road noise. Maybe it was that I cut out insulation to install a spare. Maybe it was that I opened the rear panels and added butyl and foam. Maybe it was because I hacked my hatch trim installing 3 different sizes of rigid vinyl tubing. Maybe I'm an idiot. 😂 Anyway the MYP seemed smoother. I couldn't pass up the new price and power either. Ordered the MYP, swapped the OE suspension back in, and sold the MYP to Carmax for $47k (they must not know about the recent price drops and tax credits). My 2 cents. A drop in the bucket compared to all the positive reviews, I know. Anyway, they are for sale here in the for sale subforum, here:

Holy smokes it worked!! Thanks so much @ilovecoffee you made this car perfect.

Got delivery today (MYLR 2023 Austin build), went home immediately, got to work. As I drove home heard the buffeting not horrible but it was clearly present.

Used the ilovecoffee methodology:

-Inserted the 3/8 OD (little bigger than the standard 5/16 OD) tubing using WD-40 Specialist. Went in super smooth no hassles it got stuck on the loop back up, so I cut it and started from the other side to meet the initial tubing. Worked perfectly in two total pieces. I did tear a little bit of the hatch gasket, its a little fragile so be careful and gentle.

-Then I adjusted the hatch stops opening and closing probably 50 times using envelope method. You can hear the latch pop loudly when opening but it closed perfectly so Im satisfied.

-Installed 3d Maxpider trunk covers (just to provide extra layer of fabric in the trunk (not sure if it makes a difference.

Went for a test drive just got back. Immediately my "test road" became super quiet the buffeting was reduced from 100% present to maybe 15-20% present. I was absolutely shocked, even my wife couldn't believe 15 minutes of super simple work made such difference.

At this point I think im satisfied with the results so I'll stop the modifications for this issues here.

@ilovecoffee really appreciate all your help.

Great to hear.

Can someone confirm - I looked at a 2023 Model Y and the Hatch stops seems a bit more sturdy and did not have the play as like 2022. Maybe that means you don’t need to 3D print ?

Wondering if they upgraded it - I can try to get the hatch stops from Tesla parts store. Did anyone try it ?

Not bad here in Canada $22 plus tax for the trunk seal part. Gonna get it and get some tubing and see if it makes a difference

Picked up the new trunk seal here in Canada today, and purchased 2 of Vinyl Hose, 5/16-in ID x 10-ft from Canadian Tire
Easy to push through when the trunk seal isn't installed.

Pulled off the old seal with all it's sticky glue, and installed the new seal with the tubing installed. Adjusted the bumper stops both outer and inner with paper test. Went for a few drives and can feel improvement with my ears. Will report more in a few more days. Opening trunk has a bit of a initial 'pop', due to the latch feeling the tightness from the tubing.

hi all and bet757, thanks for your info.

My fd and i have 2021 Model Y and he has 5 seats LR and I have 7 seats LR. His wife and son have experience on Motion sickness when seat on First row passenger side after tire change from winter 19" to all season 20", He try to put the 3/8 O/D tub in to the trunk sealing rubber. however, the door not close at all, he have adjusted the stopper without success unless you force the trunk to close by press it down. Any idea?

i have installed the 1/4 OD last year which has a small improvement, however after the tires swipe from 19" to 20" i feel like the ear pressures appear again. like to try to fix it. Since i have 7 seats, i can;t put the sound deadening in the wheel wall unless take the 2 row seats out. i like to see is it anyway to put a bigger tub in the sealing to fix that ear pain issue. my fd's kid was throw out couple times when seating on behind my driver side 2-row.

thanks all input

I have 7 seater LR Y and installed 5/16 OD tubing and it closed ok.

Only have 300 miles on my 23 MY Austin and inner ear pain is so bad I can't drive it. Have appt at Tesla service center next week to address some dings and scratches, I've added this booming/ low frequency / buffeting to my service ticket. Hoping they have some sort of solution

How wide spread of an issue is this? I’m pretty sensitive to sound and can often hear things others can’t especially low frequencies. On the test drive we stayed on city streets, didn’t go highway speeds at all and had the window open so definitely didn’t notice any of this. And obviously that’s a different vehicle than I will receive anyways. This could be a deal breaker for me and I can still cancel my pickup

rent a tesla model y for a day, Take a drive on streets with older style of construction material. Look for asphalt surface with looks like it is rocky. Drive over it with windows closed and at 40 mph or so. Find some roads whose cracks have been cheaply filled in with tar/asphalt thus giving the surface repeating bumps. Aka expansion cracks that have been filled in.

Only issue is it appears to be subjective and not all vehicles are impacted

Hard to say, it's very subjective. I'm on my second Tesla, drive 50,000km per year and have four drivers in the house. No driver or passenger has ever mentioned any discomfort. I'm gonna guess that's the same for the vast majority of owners. It's also possible the "issue" is in fact a whole range of things being clumped under one, it's not like this is scientific.

Yea maybe but every poll on this has over 50% that have stated they have the same issue, that’s not a good run rate
