Following the amazing announcement over night which all customers with new orders or orders yet to be produced.
I called my delivery specialist and ask what effect that would have on existing orders. It sounds like we will have to pay the additional £2400 if you paid £2200 for your order of autopilot or £2000 if you paid £2600 post price increase. Although I had hoped we might miss this first stage of upgrade costs I understand you are getting a lot more for your money and lets face it for once uk purchasers of the X who have been frustrated waiting for the right hand drive model are being rewarded. It should protect our investment in the car moving forward as it will support full level 5 autonomy. I did ask what happens if you don't take the Enhanced Autopilot. He said you would get autopilot the same as what is enabled on existing cars. Not sure how that will work especially as Elon says cars equipped with the new hardware will have a lot of functionality limited initially? I think they expect customers with existing orders will be contacted to decide if they wish to upgrade. Interested to see what other thoughts are?

I would expect that if you won't want to pay for the upgraded version they will offer you a refund and you can have a car without AP. (which you can then add later, at a premium, if you want, as the car will come with all appropriate hardware)

This was how the phasing out of the 85 battery was handled, although in addition to upgrade at cost, downgrade with refund, there was also an option top take immediate delivery.

Hmm. I got my email that the car "entered production" yesterday! So for me the question is will it have the new hardware or not. I have emailed the DS (I guess they must all be a bit busy at the moment). If it hasn't got the new hardware; pity, but I knew what I ordered so the hew hardware would be a bonus(?). Either way shouting about it isn't going to change anything (except my blood pressure :)). I will wait to see what they say.

Oddly, though, it might mean that you don't get to enjoy AP for a while, until the fleet learning with the new sensor suite is complete.
Here's hoping the US fleet has done the job by the time your cars are delivered. When is your delivery estimated for?

Elon said in his conference call that the new hardware had been fitted to all cars since the beginning of the week. Not sure what day they would be suggesting but I understood it to be since Monday which was the 17th it would make sense as that was the day he original planned the announcement.
He also made it very clear there would be no upgrade path.

    Hi Cookielovers
Thanks for the information, i order my MX in September 2016 expecting delivery in Feb 2017, no vin yet. I paid AP when ordered.
Based on what you said earlier, is that mean my MX will fit with AP1 and not AP2 (Enhanced AP), also not able to upgrade to AP2 (Enhanced AP) version?
It is all UK customers have the same Delivery Specialist?

    Many thanks

@T28Yau Every car that they make will have the AP hardware version 2. From what we can tell there are 6 combinations available:
    • Hardware version 1 with AP Convenience features disabled (but can be enabled at any time.)
    • Hardware version 1 with AP Convenience features active
    • Hardware version 2 with only AP Safety Features active (but upgradable at any time to Enhanced AP ($6k), or Enhanced AP & Full autonomy($10k)).
    • Hardware version 2 with AP Convenience features (Only for people that ordered before the reveal and paid for AP1 but will get AP2 hardware, you can pay the difference to upgrade to Enhanced AP or Enhanced AP & Full autonomy.)
    • Hardware version 2 with Enhanced AP
    • Hardware version 2 with Enhanced AP & Full autonomy.

From what I have read, all Model S cars have AP2 Hardware fitted since 10/10 and all Model X cars have AP2 since 17/10. I ordered AP1 and my car is yet to go into production so I have the choice to upgrade to AP2 (enhanced auto-pilot (£2000 extra) and self-drive (£3000 on top of £2k) if I want or I can have all the features of AP1 with AP2 hardware at no additional cost with the choice to upgrade post-delivery (but that costs even more..).

As you don't have a VIN your car isn't near production just yet, your vin will be released around 1.5 month before production begins.

    Who is your DS?

I have someone else as my DS but I've ordered a Model S. You should contact your DS and they will be able to make the correct changes!

So far I have been rather disappointed with Tesla and their CS, at times its good (just like my experience with ICE dealers (except porsche as they are beyond great) but most of the time tesla isn't great.

Things started with my part-ex quoting coming in £2k less than they said and then not receiving any confirmation of my deposit, finance approval (all been confirmed verbally with the hope that I will get an email as advised) and now hearing from my DS saying my car won't arrive for around 6-8 weeks after it leaves the US. My car has a VIN but no production date, it won't be here until december it seems

Yes I agreed, Tesla put a lot of effort on sale but after sales services so far is not great. I don't expect someone holding my hand but spending >£100k, I would expect better communication.

Any can give some suggestions about should I upgrade AP1 to AP2+self drive? Is quite significant amount of money and will the self driving ever rollout?

I know that the announcements have created a "storm" of queries about the status of orders. In many respects, its the "perfect storm"; a large number of orders to beat the price increase, then a change of spec. Personally, assuming my order has the AP2 hardware (i have been told it does), I will go for the difference for the "enhanced Autopilot" but not the "full self driving" at this point. My reasoning is that once the new autopilot has "learned" in the way the old one did, it will make better use of the hardware. "full self driving" is going to be subject to a lot of regulation and approvals I guess so it may take a while to be fully functional. I will keep my money until that time and make the decision later - that's one feature that I don't want to be on the "bleeding edge" for. Normally I would be an "early adopter" if I get the chance, but this one I will wait.

I have just come to the same conclusion TC56, I have literally just pressed the button this morning confirming upgrading from AP1 to Enhanced Auto pilot! Ultimately it will never be available to me at this cost entry point and my MX order is going through my LTD company so that`s another 20% saved in Coporation tax...... !

Plus this feature should be properly up and running by the time I receive delivery in March, and one things for sure the full self driving option if it does become available to use in the UK is going to be a lot of fun!!

Really exciting for us all to have these potential benefits available in such a short period of time, it almost makes you forget how awesome the actually car is even without these options ??

Should be better than that ? well ... depending on how you do the maths. The 100% first year writeoff (for company purchase) still applies I think?

Bit debatable whether paying later (at higher price) is better - lower initial price on which BIK tax is calculated, albeit that I am sure that everyone does increase the BIK basis calculation price if they were to ever buy an additional option for the car ...

I did NOT buy winter wheels / tires for the vehicle for that reason. I don't think they need to contribute to BIK, but having them included in the purchase price would have made that more difficult to argue.

Only reason I would have would be to make sure that the vehicle was "latest and greatest" when i got it, so that when I came to sell it was better than anything that didn't have that option. Not an issue if you are leasing ...

I took the view that BIK is based on the purchase price so I included all that I wanted that could not be upgraded and will add AP later if it turn out as good as it looks. My order is still not in production so should be upgradable all the way.
