First 60kWH delivery notice or email - who will it be?

My VIN is:

5YJSA1DG5DFP03541

I think that fits the pattern it is supposed to, but I was just about to search for the VIN explanation thread to double check that it all means what I think it means and that I'm not getting something unexpected in there. Perhaps one of the VIN experts can interpret. At any rate, this can only be a good thing for the rest of you. Apparently this VIN was assigned late today which means the car is entering the production line presently.

Cheers

Thanks Discoducky. It would appear that my VIN is exactly as it should be based on that interpretation. Looks like this 60 kWh car will be the 3541st Model S built then? Well 3 1/2 years later it's about time and shouldn't be long until the rest of you get your VINs as well, I would suppose.

I will of course put together some type of delivery thread after I pick up the car in Fremont complete with photos, observations, quirks, etc. Seems to be the fashion around here ;)

But for that I will need a firm delivery date. I sent in our DL copies and our proof of insurance and my rep said that she would probably have all the paperwork together by this weekend for electronic signatures, which means next Monday I can get it all off to my CU to complete the financing.

Wow. Looking forward to the step up from my Kia to this. For me, driving our car will be my first time driving a Model S. The only one I have sat in is the one in the Santana Row store, and they don't like you driving through the windows so it tends to stay put. In fact, this will be the first time I have ever driven an electric car, other than my son's Power Wheels Jeep which I can't really fit in but rather run beside and turn the wheel when he approaches an impasse or precipice of doom at his grandparents' house.

As of today the solar panels on my roof have produced 565 kWh (they are pretty new) so it will likely be a bit before I am anything other than emissions free. I am so looking forward to breaking free from explosion energy to something that works with nature instead of against it. If I can have fun doing it, all the better. Here's to hoping I never have to purchase another ICE car again.

Cheers.

Just as a data point, about 5 minutes ago I got an email with my VIN. Yahoo!! Hang in there 60 kWh battery folks... the cars are coming.

Cheers.

Awesome news and congratulations Ceilidh..

You will likely be one of the first folks, except for a Tesla employee, to test drive a 60kWh. We're all anxious to hear how it compares to the 85, both in performance and in range.

The wheels are a turning now, it won't be long. Very Cool.

It's fun to play the "don't look at the cheat sheet (thread)" game every once in a while...

  • 5YJ - Tesla
  • S - Model S
  • A - 5 Door Hatchback LHD RWD First customer body type ("v1")

  • 5 - Check digit

Edit: Corrections in grey and red. Better memory than expected. :)

Hans with a lower P number (631) may have a VIN too at this point?!

nope. I have not been contacted yet by Tesla, so no VIN or specific delivery day as of yet.

I had every intention of waiting patiently to be contacted by Tesla about my delivery. I couldn't take it anymore so tonight I sent an email to [email protected] requesting more information.

Went into the Menlo Park store. They can lookup a VIN but they can't do much else without phoning someone at HQ. In retrospect I should have just phoned the main Tesla HQ number in the first place.

Cheers, indeed! Bravo on your pending delivery and your marvellous point of view!

Well, I am happy to report how it compares to a Kia sportage (*laughter forever, then calming down...*) but since I have never driven a Model S before I won't have much of a reference for 60 vs 85 car performance. I have driven many luxury cars with big V8s, jags, Lexus, BMWs, etc (none of them mine) in the past so I am not clueless when it comes to refined automobiles. I will do my best to report impartially and accurately, though.

I would also like to say thanks to everybody for being so enthusiastic about someone else getting a car. What a great group of people. In return, perhaps I can tell you a short true story that is slightly related but always made me chuckle--you can skip it if you are not a fan of the british sense of humor.

I am descended from a long and distinguished line of white trash. My parents are from West Virginia, but my father must have been british in a former life because he was born acting like a brit and has until this day. He does fundraising for a school and research organization that benefits special needs kids (mostly autistic) in the Pittsburgh, PA area (Sewickley, to be exact) and as a result he spends a lot of time with people who have monetary resources to donate to his organization. A friend of his in Sewickley bought a Bentley as his daily driver and at about the same time my father was entertaining an old friend from England who was in the US for a visit. The Bentley driver picked up my father and his british friend after lunch one day and was excited to show off the car to the visiting brit, having him sit in the passenger seat up front.

The Bentley driver then turned to him and asked: "Have you ever been in a Bentley before?"

The brit's reply: "Many times... although never in the front seat."

Highlights the differences in thinking about certain car brands across the pond. In case that was obscure, brits who can afford a Rolls or Bentley would almost never drive it themselves. From their opinion, they are made to be driven by drivers, while the owners ride in the back and to sit in the front would be uncivilized.

We americans tend to like to drive whatever we have ourselves, myself included. I will just resist the WV urges in my veins to take this car "muddin'," or to insert a double horseshoe of cope when driving since the the center console lacks a spittoon and I'm not fond of oral cancer anyway (not to grossly stereotype WV, but although I actually love that state and visit fairly often, it does resemble those comments, despite John Denver's efforts to turn the tide in public thinking about the area) :D

At any rate, I'm rambling due to being ludicrously overjoyed in anticipation of this car. More details to follow...

Cheers

PS--Thanks for the interpretation brianman!

I've sent e-mails to the delivery@... address twice now but they never responded to me.

Me neither when I emailed that address, I think it is probably a completely overstuffed email inbox. I went to the Tesla website and got the main number for Tesla, then requested to b transferred to ownership. There I got a random person who was able to look up my assigned delivery specialist and gave me an email and phone # for her. I emailed her and about 36 hours later I got an email back with my brand spankin new VIN. You may have more luck if you go that route than the general email, as my experience was the same as yours until I tried a different tactic. FWIW.

Cheers.

So I called and they informed me that I would be getting a VIN next week and that my DS would be a lady called Laura. So I'll patiently wait (and will NOT shoot myself after all). I also asked them to check the contact information that they had on file for me and I'm glad that I did, as they had the wrong area code for my phone number!
