Free Pod point charging - interupted

Hi.

Have you ever experienced any problems with free pod point chargers? We have one in Tesco's. Whenever I set it to charge Tesla model 3 it stops after few minutes.

It has done it 3 times already.
Anything I can do to fix it?

Yes that's good advice. You have to use the app and confirm your charge. All the podpoints have names and right or left charger.

It happened to me once. The app confirmed but still bounced me out. I was watching a football match, so lost 2 hrs of a possible free charge!

I phoned the helpline and was immediately advised to delete and reinstall the app. I got the impression this is a common problem. I did, it worked and I charged from 15% to 90% for free.

btw: those free pod points in Tesco are in partnership with VW. Not sure if they will remain free for anyone without VW ID after the ID launch

I’ve found the pod point app very flakey. The website is much better for claiming the charge.

Yes, I too was asked by the helpline to delete and re-load the App. Apparently it has a cache which can get blocked. Worked well after that and my historic data was preserved.

Did you overstay the free parking limit?? Some are 3 hours and others are 4. I've had free juice at my local store, signs say £70 fine after 4 hours. Just beware that's all.

Yes, there was a 4 hour parking limit. I just drove out and came back again

Yeah, that's what our local council free parking for EVs is. 3 hours free parking, no return within 4 hours.

Private land rather than Council owned, and there was no clear signage saying return prohibited for a set time. If I get an invoice (they can’t issue a penalty notice) I’ll just ignore it.

I have followed that guide and charged for an hour . Speed 24miles/hour. I am charge point free till tuesday so any charging quicker than 8miles/hour is welcome.

Alternatives are Tesla destination chargers (you may find one 11kW for a little faster charging) or switch to CCS - try PlugShare - Find Electric Vehicle Charging Locations Near You and companion mobile app. CCS are in orange on plugshare

How would the charger know what it is connected to?

More likely they would control is via the app. You'd get a code from VW or similar. Probably why you still have to claim it now
