LeEco cuts 325 U.S. employees, will focus on Chinese-speaking consumers
LeEco confirmed on Tuesday that it will lay off the bulk of its U.S. workforce, as CNBC first reported Monday evening. According to CNET, the company is cutting 325 employees, or 70 percent of its workforce. LeEco did not immediately respond to CNBC's request for comment.

LeEco or Leshi is a weird group. They were showing LeEco shows off its ‘LeSEE’ all-electric car concept [Gallery] besides funding Faraday Future and Atieva (now called Lucid Motors).

Faraday Future gives up on its $1 billion EV factory, says it’s looking for something else

A few months ago, FF downsized the footprint of their planned North Las Vegas factory (where the only apparent progress was grading some dirt). Earlier today, they announced that they've put a hold on building a factory at that site altogether and, instead, will be looking for another location in California or Nevada to build a factory that more closely suits their new business model.

Stefan Krause, their CFO, said the following in a released statement:
“We have decided to put a hold on our factory at the Apex site in North Las Vegas. We remain committed to the Apex site in Las Vegas for long-term vehicle manufacturing. We at Faraday Future are significantly shifting our business strategy to position the company as the leader in user-ship personal mobility — a vehicle usage model that reimagines the way users access mobility. As a result of this shift in direction, we are in the final stages of confirming a new manufacturing facility that presents a faster path to start-of-production and aligns with future strategic options.”

I assume "user-ship personal mobility" would be something like the planned Tesla Network where privately owned autonomous cars would be available for hire? Or maybe targeting fleet ownership rather than private ownership of ride-share vehicles?

What doesn't make sense is why are looking for a brand new site while still hanging on to the Apex site and allowing it to go fallow? Why not just unload that big site if they need to extremely downsize their manufacturing capacity for their new incarnation? Their press release says they may need it for "long-term vehicle manufacturing", but they are in such dire straits they need to focus on just surviving in the near-term, without the financial burden of a big piece of land they may never get to use.

After abandoning its graded dirt lot in North Las Vegas, FF has moved into an existing facility in Hanford, CA (near Fresno) for its factory.
Tesla competitor Faraday Future previews 1 million square foot Hanford facility
Faraday Future is an electric car start-up based in Los Angeles and on Saturday, they invited all their employees from throughout the state to help put the finishing touches on their new one million square foot factory.
So, are they asking employees to pick up brooms and paint brushes to spiff up the building? No contractors will work with them anymore because they owe everybody money?

Holy crap! I was just being facetious, but it looks like they really are asking employees to paint the building:

...there are still tenants on locations who are not moving out until November, which is why FF can’t ramp up its effort at the plant until next year.

They don't have money to pay real employees. That's the local homeless population (if not they soon will be).

Distancing themselves from LeEco and Jia Yueting is probably the smartest move by FF in recent months. It'll be interesting to see how the company fares financially without their former benefactor... a benefactor that also came with a lot of "baggage".
