A note on heat pumps: The ones used in cars generally do not have the expensive self proportioning valve. Thus, they are more efficient in cold climates but less efficient in hot climates... So, depending on where you live, it can be a plus or a minus...

The heat pump was included on two of the three 2013 trim lines. Do you have the S versus the SV or SL?

That is right -- some of the LEAFs were left out, and it continued way past 2013. To this day, IIRC

Optional feature, not standard, whereas Tesla did not have it as an option. Thus the differentiation.

But back to the real question, which version of Tesla's patent in in the Y???
May be a better to cover that in a different thread, since there are like 3 or more heat pump ones at this point.

but Why does Tesla use a Resistance Heater instead of Heat Pump is the techincal one, even if it is in the S forum.

Does it really though? I noticed next to no difference from the cold in my S, snow/ice on the other hand made a big impact. The heater is only drawing something like 2 kW continuously after the car has been heated so it can’t have that big an impact.

2 kW would be a major impact per distance in city driving. Figure 200 Wh/km in nice weather and 45 kph so 9 kW vs 11 kW

Given the utterly garbage battery/range on the first gen leaf- it kinda HAD to have one.

At the time, it wasn’t THAT bad. 75mi real world was awesome. 2011-2012 cars had great headlights, horrid HVAC/window wiper energy consumption

The compressor is driven with a lossy waveform that causes the electronic and motor windings to heat up. The sane way the 3 and Y drive units also function as the pack heater. The HVAC blower can do the same. There are also two Low Voltage heaters that can be used.

So Efficiency of 1 in worst case.

Has anyone actually tested the heat pump to get a real world mileage difference in cold weather?

Also with the Y, there is no free lunch. It gives up performance, handling and some range for the extra space. Depending on what one values most, it can be the inferior or superior choice.

'real world' is an oxymoron. There are an infinite number of real worlds

Also, you may not have noticed but it is summer in the northern hemisphere. Heat pumps are meant to make a difference in heating season
