How many will look into the F-150 Lightning?

I have a reservation in the system for a Ford F-150 And CT… did a test drive in a hybrid Ford this week. I have to say the Ford product (Platinum Edition) was pretty impressive. My only gripe was the truck turned like a ship… not very maneuverable in a parking lot. The pros was the ride comfort, quiet cabin, and the room. Fit and finish was a lot higher quality than I expected. The dealer said I’m in the single digits for delivery in my area… but did say expect a big price markup due to demand. I hope Tesla has a better timeline for CT so I don’t have to make a decision in the dark.

You're point is spot on. The other dealers may be behind on tech but Ford, GM knows how to get a product off the line with fit and finish that meet expectations. IF (big one) you can pull up a F-150 lightning into a Tesla SC for near the same charging cost it's not even a fair fight. The F-150 + Tesla SC makes the CT look more and more like a rich-mans impractical toy.

For me the CT is a far superior vehicle, we do sustainable forestry and that is just brutal on the truck body. This winter I had some road salt in the back of the truck under saws, oil, gas, etc. Forgot it was there, parked in a cow field to check on a harvest. Cows tried to climb in the truck to get to the salt. A month later someone moved my truck to get out fo the way of a log truck rolling in, they managed to get the tailgate on a post, just enough to rip all the top trim off. It's just something every month. It's a f350 and weighs in at 10k pounds, it can tow a 16k lb trailer with a tractor, skidsteer etc. I fully expect the CT to be its equal in functionality.

I am looking forward to the CT more than any vehicle I've every purchased. First it is a Tesla, battery will be the best, electronics will work. The body, enough said, the windows ...great (little known fact that the fxxx series trucks get a lot of rock windshield damage). The supercharging network, despite all the noise I don't think they'll actually give it up but make it open enough to get that sweet socialist $.

My concerns are getting a gooseneck trailer hitch to work and getting a diesel fuel transfer tank and pump in the bed. Moving from diesel to EV on the truck will save so much money. Huge savings. An oil change with fuel filter changes and such is close to $400. Then there is the weight related issues with the front end, the 350 diesels are so heavy it is really tough on the front ends, not unusual to do those every 100k and that is $2500. Then there is fuel costs, diesel is expensive and DEF is another PITA. The good is that it is a tough truck, it can tow a huge amount. It is iconic for a reason.

If the tow capacity on the CT is really an issue I'll have a custom built trailer made to haul the skidsteer. If they doesn't work then we'll save the f350 for towing only.

I think that the CT is much more functional than the f150 lightening. I'm very happy that ford is making a sincere push into EVs but the CT is going to be a much better vehicle. Both companies will sell everyone they make but beware GM is going to announce another new EV truck that will hit the road...any day now. Oh wait..another GM EV has been announced. How can Tesla and Ford keep up with all these GM announcements. GM is crushing them.

F150 is the king in truck land…numbers don’t lie.

I agree. Ford plus Tesla SC network is a big win for a Ford and its loyal customers. Another stupid move by Elon.

Is Tesla even going to make the CT?
I'm not sure what the value proposition is for Tesla to do this. For other EV makers it's an enormous boon. The SC network is by far and away the best way to charge anywhere in the US I can see. There must be some really serious economics to this if they are willing to give up what I believe is the greatest advantage of Tesla vs the competition.

I just bought a Taycan and would love to be able to hit the SC network. It's my wife's so it's 99.9% charge at home but I get 3 years of DC fast charge on EA. My S had lifetime SC'ing so I'd hit that up but not because of road trips but the economics of the free power.

How many "kings" have been killed throughout history?...
the F150 Lightning looks extremely compelling with the massive frunk, lots of power outlets and the ability to power your home. In addition to all the learnings from decades of making the best selling truck line in the US. From what we've heard - the 300 miles rating with the Lightning is also very conservative and assumes a heavy payload. Fords bread and butter is the F150 and they aren't releasing a truck which will disappoint traditional truck buyers. The Cybertruck looks great and is different but the yoke alone isn't going to win over traditional truck buyers

I am waiting for the Cybertruck and will wait as long as I have to. I am not getting second best or third best with the Lightning or Rivian electric trucks.

Good luck with that.

geez.

no fricken door handles, no real round steering wheel, no easy to use column controls, no side mirrors, no storage, no leather, no windshield wipes, no accessory’s or switches, no glove box, paper dash, lets see, what else. Government approvals? No. Oh wait… level 5 FSD…ah no.

yea right. Your not get the 4th best, or 3rd or even second best, you want the best.

ya. Ok.

LoL. I take it that you really want the F150! The way I see it, they'll appeal to different people, and that's great. Either way, none of them will be available to a new customer ordering now until 2023 or beyond based on expected production rate and current pre orders. We'll have to wait for their actual release to get real world feedback, and we clearly are going to have to wait a while longer.

Musk will redesign the CT in 2024. It will-look. More traditional and come with real truck stuff. And options.

bold prediction. Dump the CT.
