ICE-holes in Las Vegas

I am in the “no harm no foul“ camp. I’ve seen superchargers marked general parking, priority to Tesla vehicles. This sounds reasonable to me. But as soon as the lot is full, the sanctions should go immediately into effect. It’s the risk you would be willing to assume by parking a non-compliant vehicle there.

You might want to pass that suggestion on to the Nevada legislature, then. The law on the books, NRS 484B.468, is not that forgiving:

“A person shall not park a vehicle in a space designated for charging electric or hybrid electric vehicles by a sign or markings that meet the requirements of subsection 2, whether on public or privately owned property if the vehicle is not connected to the charging station for the purpose of charging.”

I just hope the owners of the parking lot will henceforth contact the authorities to apply Nevada Law NRS 484B.468 to these culprits. Because the site boasts numerous v.3 Superchargers, Tesla owners prefer it to the other 4 sites around Las Vegas. I've stopped by there myself, and experienced the fastest charge I've ever seen in my Model 3.
Before anybody bothers agitating to the lot owners or authorities on the matter and potentially making themself look like an ignorant prig, they should carefully read the relevant statute (NRS 484B.468) and understand that it doesn't apply to the supercharger. Specifically, none of the stalls are marked or signed in such a way to meet the requirements laid out in Section 2 of the statute and therefore it doesn't apply. BTW, this is 100% intentional and not an oversight or mistake. Hell, the signs that are there even explicitly include (conditional) allowances for parking by non-charging vehicles.

Okey-dokey. I can't recall what the signs at the site specifically state, or even if the parking spaces are marked. I guess I'll just volunteer to be the "ignorant prig" and contact Tesla to suggest that they consider doing what's necessary to make the site conform to the NRS 484B.468 statute:

I know, I’m in the minority. I never got so many thumbs down as when I challenged the idea of idle fees. People are ridiculously punitive.

I think punitive people ought to be shot.

So if I read this correctly, there’s no requirement to mark the stalls this way. It’s just saying that if you do, these punishments are the legal punishments. Tesla has no obligation to “conform”.

Oh, no. I wasn't suggesting that someone would be an ignorant prig for making polite requests or suggestions to Tesla that they change the site markings/signs so that the law applies. I meant that people hassling the property owners/Tesla/police under the mistaken belief that the law already applied and complaining that it isn't being enforced could come off this way. As for your volunteering, of course your time is your own to spend as you'd like. Unfortunately though, you'd be wasting it on this matter because Tesla and the owners have no intention of ever making the changes needed so that the law applies and aren't going to regardless of the number/volume of requests to the contrary. It would run very much against their interests to do so.

EDIT: here's pics from the relevant thread on the supercharger that show the two types of signs in use at the location. Click to enlarge for reading. Regardless of the fact that one type does say "charging only", neither complies with the law's requirements.

I think the problem here is you create an expectation of "hey I can park here any time I want, why should I move for your EV car?". The same logic that blocks people from using disabled spots unless they have the appropriate plaque etc. (Not saying ICEing is in the same league, but you know what I mean).

I wonder if the parking lot was full? I doubt it atm given the lockdown. So why were they parked there?

Do Tesla EV parking spaces meet the requirements of subsection 2 that would allow for fines? Tesla's proprietary marking and signage might not count.

That station is in a private pay-for-parking lot, and the rate per hour (after a ~30 min free period) is not cheap. Since the casinos re-opened yesterday, I'll bet it's all cleared out at this point because they are likely collecting parking fees again. Anyone seen it lately?

Behold the herd of tailpipes blocking Superchargers in Las Vegas:

Tesla Supercharger station becomes an ICE parking lot

FINE 'em! Put up a huge sign at the entrance gate warning them of the fines according to Nevada laws!
I believe that there is a gate at the entrance and Tesla give you a code to enter,
but I saw a pic recently showing that the barrier was missing and had been removed or was broken?

Was planning trip to this spot, end of month, to give some money to soon to open casinos. But will avoid this area.
I mean.... there are other casinos - even outside of Nevada.

Don't let this stop you, there are SC's in Downtown Las Vegas near Fremont St (Bridger location) and more at Town Square at the south of Las Vegas Blvd. Lots of the hotels right on The Strip have HPWC's for free if you're going into their hotel (might just have to tip up front to the Valet to get plugged in). The Bellagio has them front and center in their Valet pickup section

This location most definitely has gates to get in/out with the code from the screen when you pull up but they took the gate arm off during the early stages of COVID-19. I'll go drive by today (I'm local) and see if it's back on. There's a ton of construction in this area and I'm sure it's mostly the workers in this area that saw an open spot and took advantage of it.

In addition to all the V3 SuperChargers in this parking lot there are a ton of HPWC's (free) along the edges of the lot. Honestly, since this location opened up it's been a pain to get to (road & building construction all around it) and it's not super convenient unless you want to be near The Linq. It gets a ton of foot traffic because of the free parking East of this location and well people who are inebriated do stupid things and Tesla's are shiny objects to them begging for trouble.

We're also waiting on the Premium Outlets near I-15 to open the 8 or 10 stalls there, I've updated that thread quite a bit and will drive by that one too.

7 June, gate arms are still off both the entrance and exit. No one except Tesla and one random Bolt using a HPWC.

I took pictures of the signage too. “General valet overflow and Tesla vehicle parking”.
