Is the 40A to 72A charger upgrade software or hardware?

In the new charger config does the "enable after delivery for $1900" charger upgrade require a service visit or do they just activate it OTA? Thanks.

Every refreshed car comes with the 72A but it's software limited to 48A. I don't know if the SC has to do it.

That is wrong.

A small number of refresh Model S's and original Model X's came with software limited 72A chargers. This did not last long. My refresh requires a new part to enable 72A charging, and this has been determined to be the case for all cars manufactured since.

Can't speak for all cars, but my facelift S75D had the upgrade done recently, it was a physical replacement.
They had the car 2 days at the new Santa Clara service center.

Having multiple data points is a prerequisite for speaking confidently about any given topic, in my opinion. This is how misconceptions propagate.
