As far as I understand, the app saying “Key - Connected” is not the same as the car being unlocked.

It means the app is in Bluetooth communication range (which I assume it uses communicating actions directly such as opening the boot, as opposed to sending an instruction over the internet), but the car differentiates the Bluetooth signal strength required when they key is in very close proximity in order to unlock.

I’ve tested this by leaving my phone in the front room with the app saying “Key Connected” and trying to open the car doors. They won’t open.

This is the UK. Not sure we have that kind of thing. Bobbies with whistles according to most American movies that have a UK location (even Bourne Ultimatum did this, much to my annoyance, an otherwise perfect movie)

Your Bobbies have a hell of a lot more than whistles, the UK (London) has one of the most sophisticated surveillance systems in the world.

If thieves are sophisticated enough to defeat a Tesla’s security systems to the point they can drive it away, I’m pretty confident they can manage the average garage door lock.

That would mean transmitting the code over the air to the car, making it less secure then current. The use case of wanting to put the pin in while not sat in the front seats is tiny enough not to expose a security flaw into the system IMO.

They could, but most will move on to an easier target, such as the 90% of his neighbors parked on the street.

Actually it already does better than that - the app has face-id/touch-id to drive currently which bypasses the in-car pin

Then after that, to start the car with FaceID, tap this. It will bypass Pin-to-drive while still keeping it enabled at other times. Useful if you have passengers who you don’t want to see your PIN

That function does not show up on my app. I guess it does not work with Model X

"Face ID" is an Apple thing.

You can use remote start without face/touch id (depending on iPhone) but you get prompted to enter account password. You then get 2 minutes to drive off.
