M3P vs winter tires - in Boston, MASS

Personally I would strongly recommend winter tires. However, if most of your driving is going to be in a city/metro area where the roads are regularly salted and plowed, AND you have experience driving a car with all-season tires in snowy conditions, AND your factory tires still have lots of tread depth, I would say you don't "need" them, so long as the roads are regularly treated in time for you to get where you need to in the case of significant snow/ice.
I'd say the price of a set of winter tires like these is worth the peace of mind that you won't find your prized Model 3 in a slippery situation.

The 20" tires on the performance model 3 are most likely a Michelin Pilot Sport 4S (PS4S) and they should not be used below 20F. As reported in another venue: "However, Michelin notes that its summer tires—specifically the PS4S—are not recommended for use in the cold. When Michelin's summer compound tires are exposed to cold air below 40 degrees, the tire compound stiffens and loses pliability, and the grip level can degrade. As temperatures dip below 20 degrees, the tire's surface area may begin to crack due to improper exposure and use—and those cracks would void the warranty."
I'm still waiting on my bloody car. Big delays due to the Euro deliveries. I have an MP3 coming and I ordered these 18" wheels. I'd rather have maximum tire wall for potholes, plus it will be an acceleration aid.

It sounds like you got the Model 3 Performance with the Performance Upgrade Package (including bigger brakes). If so, you need to be very careful about which wheels you buy if you get a spare set of wheels for the winter tires. Tesla's 19" wheels don't fit without modifications. Only their 20" wheels do.

Better get cracking 21F Friday night. It’s not just about traction, you will ruin the tire and void the warranty on them.
You can also get the Performance snows as well from Tesla. But Tesla only offers those in 20”. Folks have found even 18” aftermarket that will fit. You really don’t want to run 20” on any winter tire.

Yup. I have these on mine, currently with Continental DWS 06. I'll probably replace the tires with Michelin Pilot A/S 3+ due to preference (and habit) but no complaints about the Continentals.

I have a M3P on order, and just purchased a set of 18” wheels with a set of general altimax snow tires, all for less than $1,300. You definitely do not want to be driving the the summer tires in the cold, never mind any type of snow on the ground.
