Yes - but only if NHTSA doesn't do something to precipitate a crisis. Otherwise I expect her "deleted" tweets to be read in a court / senate hearing.

They should work on long term regulations for A.V. instead of whack-a-mole.

I think you're thinking of the NTSB, who can only make recommendations

The NHTSA is the regulatory risk that Elon/Tesla have cited many times and continue to cite on the FSD page

This is all a smoke screen being generated because Elon Musk does not want NHTSA imposing any regulations or restrictions on the industry. They are not going to require Lidar (or any other technology). They may require that automation features get tested and meet certain criteria such as being able to detect vehicles, pedestrians or objects in different conditions. In the mean time, the reactions of the angry Tesla mob with pitch forks reflects very badly on us.
