Model 3 and Model Y no longer have radar

The hot news of the day is the lack of radar on new Model 3 and Y. I am confuse. So would we still get the obstacle around the car view when driving in tight garages and parking? i am a super bad parker.

There is one radar in the front. You get measured distances on all 4 corners of the car. It is not the radar providing those distances.

The radar was largely used just to determine distance to obstacles looking forward for the TACC and AP systems. Close in maneuvering is handled by the ultrasonics.

That is obviously an excellent source! So my apologies.

I am quite surprised by this development, given that radar can “see” through weather that cameras cannot. In dense fog, the radar gave me confidence. Though of course radar can be fooled, as several high profile highway AutoPilot fatalities have demonstrated over the past six years.

Obviously the Tesla engineers are the experts, I know essentially nothing about their areas of expertise. I sure hope this change proves to be the right move.

Posts on reddit seem to indicate that the new vision system is terrible compared to the one that also has radar. One would hope/assume it will improve greatly with software updates, but it's a step back for now.

Yes, those autonomous vehicle experts on reddit know all the details about what Tesla is doing.

I suspect none of those people on reddit have driven both the camera/radar and camera only current beta releases of Tesla FSD and therefore are only speculating.
