Model 3 Delivery Experience in Fremont

Maybe 30 people here at 9a. Passed about 15 car transporter semis, parked empty on the side streets around here, on the way in. Tons of vehicles in the lot out front including a silver metallic performance that hopefully works for me.

After checkin, they directed me and others to the lounge. They don’t have a car matched yet so I’m to wait there for a “matching specialist” who will see if there’s a VIN here that matches my order.

How many vehicles do you estimate they have on the lot? Great way to reduce channel inventory before the end of the quarter and have potentially higher delivery than produced numbers due to carry over from last quarter.

Although I have a vin assigned taking delivery at an event like this would be cool and I’d welcome it.

I’m assuming their might be some concessions maybe we don’t have blue would you be interested in another color or interior or rims etc. Great way to potentiallly upsell to features you didn’t already config for. It seems like it’s best to show up as early as possible to avoid having to potentially make those concessions. But a great strategy on Tesla’s part to say we don’t have this vehicle without EAP would you be interested in a demo to potentially take this vehicle home that matches what you want plus EAP.

Will continue to drive up ASP in Qtr and also potentially margins

Scheduled delivery for end of Sep and got email as well, decided to drop by and check it out. There are around 100ish cars on the lot with lots of white interiors. About to leave but sharing some pics. None of those are my config guessing because I didn’t RSVP.

So we are expected to go to Freemont with no assurance that our car is actually there? Its a significant journey for me. If they told me my car is there, I would go, otherwise it seems very risky and possibly highly disappointing. I don't have a VIN and was going to pay cash. I just spoke with customer service and they are in the dark as well. Ugh!

That’s right. If you aren’t close by, I wouldn’t go. Wait for an appointment.

For me it was a $25 lyft, and I was curious.

Right. Same situation as I'm in. Drive through traffic is just too long when there's no assurance that my car will be sitting there waiting for me.

Thanks to all those who have contributed to this thread for the benefit of those of us who also received the invitation and are wondering what the heck is going on!

After about an hour of shameless eavesdropping, I'd say that this event could work if you want a First Production car (LR-RWD-PUP-black) and aren't too fussy about options. They seem to have all the colors and wheels though.

There are a few higher-optioned cars, but you'd probably have to take whatever color, wheels, and interior they happen to have. It's like buying off a dealer lot, except that you have to have a reservation already.

I’m quite a ways out from Fremont as well and got the invite. I’ll wait until delivery.

I wonder if this is a good option for you to at least check out the car first, and if there are problems, another one might be available for you to switch? Since there’s no official VIN assigned yet it might be a good option.

Totally agree. I am going to be extra cautious. It is the performance model so I'm thinking it likely isn't an old reject since they haven't been making them for long. Their quarter-end is a few weeks away so I know they want to ramp up deliveries asap.
