Since the linked Electrek articles comes from Süeddeutsche Zeitung it does not take great insight to bet that the carmaker who did the Model 3 teardown in BMW. Nobody else is likely to go to BMW's hometown newspaper, unless the point is purposeful deception.

Anyway it is obvious that they were seriously impressed.

It is clear that the Germán source was oriented toward technological evaluation and the “tearing into Tesla” was intended to do that.

Clearly the Bavarians were impressed by engineering, simplicity and ease of construction. The other one searched for faults. Both can be useful.
