so basically what is being said here is that if you have a wreck and it’s your fault for being distracted, you don’t want there to be proof of that fact.

You saw somebody say that? Funny, I didn't.

I may have seen someone say "if you've got nothing to hide, you've got nothing to fear", though.

It seems like most people are fine with the camera until someone gives them a reason to dislike it.....
I'm just saying I take the opposite approach; I don't want a camera recording me until Tesla convinces me that it's worth the obvious invasion of privacy.

Tesla, through it’s actions, has already demonstrated that it has no regard for its already lax data policy. Basically you can assume Tesla will do whatever they want with any of the data that they collect from your vehicle and that you have no control over it.
