I wanted a ssd for two reasons. Better long term reliability, and I am going to partition it so I can have music on it as well.
This.
SSD is faster and suited for heavy read/write IO. More reliable, No moving parts

SD cards will fail over time and cause loss of sentry video logs. And also losing the entire contents.

You dont want to be faced with the prospect of not being able to play the video of a car accident to prove your case to the authorities

I bought the Sandisk 1TB ssd @ Costco. Now avail with $20 off.

does it warn you once it is burnt out?
There's no detection to warn you about anything in advance. If the drive starts to malfunction, then features that interact with the drive will either stop working or act weird. You might get data dropouts on video. You might not be able to play certain songs if you're using it for music. If the drive can't do what the dashcam software needs it to do, the dashcam icon will show a red X. Trying to use the dashcam software for anything will get you a message.
