@beths11 If you could take a picture of the trunk in lowest posision also, I have not seen this in pictures yet, I mean a picture were the floor behind the seats are taken out and the other lowered to the lowest posision.

Until now I have only see this in upper posision or taken out:)
I hope this provides you what you wish. If not ask again

I've been making an assumption that may not be correct. When you place the rear floor panel to its lower position, does it lay level with the forward lower floor area? On the second photo the rear panel is on the lower position. You can tell because you can see the little support tabs above. I don't know if it's an optical illusion, but it looks like the rear floor panel sits slightly higher than the forward floor area. Is that right? From the indentations, it looks like that lowest storage area is meant to have a panel that fits over it to cover it and be level with the forward floor area. But maybe that rear floor panel isn't supposed to be that piece.

I wish you didn't live as far away from Florida as is possible and still be within the lower 48. I need to find one of these cars to look at in person.

I guess one surprising this is that this new vertical cover in the storage compartment of the five-seater trunk seems to cover the cargo strap connection points (or what we assumed were cargo strap connection points)? Or does it hook into them?

I picked up a new 5 seat Model X yesterday. I think the back seats are ok, not great. Disappointed with the smaller proportioned center seat and the open back that stuff hanging out. Looks circa 1980's minivan like, to my taste. I was disappointed in Tesla.
The center seat was designed to be smaller coz Tesla expect shorter/smaller people will seat there due to lower headroom.

@beths11 Thanks for your new pictures. As @Jorgville points out, in your second picture we now see that it does not get flat in lowest posision, I guess thats why it has taken a while to get a picture of it:)

Well that was a bit of a dissapointment. In picture 2, floor panel also seems to be too smal, any info on that? Have Tesla commented on that with delivery?

I guess that is the one picture I didn't take. So, forward panel removed, rear panel in lowest position there is a gap of about 1". You could not load loose marbles in there without them rolling down into the rear well, but I think it fine for 99% of our hauling needs. So no it was not an optical illusion. I do think it is functioning as intended. In my mini van there were all kinds of bumps and hooks that didn't provide a perfectly flat surface. The surface in the X is flat and will be easy to load.

It may be Wednesday but I will try to get a picture with no forward panel, rear panel low.

I was willing to accept the car with the second row not folding (I ordered April 2016) because there is no other electric car as technologically advanced, with a charging network to support my travels. The fact that the seat folds and creates extra length is a bonus.

I am sure they will come up with more elegant solutions and I am sure the price will continue to increase.

I should not have taken that picture. I can not imagine a time I would have the front panel installed and the rear panel at it's lowest point. Rear panel at it's lowest point, remove the front panel, very close to flat , very usable.

The center seat is lower because they are the same seats as the rear of the model S. Also people complained for threads on end that the higher middle seat blocked the view out the rear view mirror. The seat works for anyone under 6' and provides great rear view visibility. I believe you were joking, but just wanted to provide a bit of history. ;)

Also, any comment on this @beths11 ?

Thanks again, beths11. On the first photo which shows that lower niche storage area at the rear, there seems to be about a 1 inch deep indentation on both sides so that if you had a floor panel to put over that lower storage area that was the same width as the rest of the lower floor, you would end up with a surface that was level with the rest of the lower floor. I don't know if I'm explaining myself well enough. Does it look like that might be the case? I don't think I would ever need that upper, longer level with the seats folded down, so I plan to keep that floor panel at home and always have that lower floor exposed. I would like to be able to have one continuous flat floor area there. If there is an accommodation over that niche storage to receive a panel, even if Tesla didn't provide it, I would be able to make one myself.

My delivery specialist has advised me that since my vehicle was delivered before beths11's car, and was delivered at the Fremont factory, clearly those rear floor panels on beth11's car, located hundreds of miles away in Oregon, were intended for my vehicle. Please forward them as soon as convenient.

1. Thank you; now I know where to look when I've lost my marbles.

2.
FOR ALL who have been surprised by the missing panel:
  • You SHOULDN'T be surprised, as this has happened before
  • You SHOULD be surprised, as this has happened before
As below:

Wayyyy back in the lower Oligocene....about late 2012-2013 or thereabouts...much of the discussion on this forum dealt with the missing "shelf" panel for the back of the Model S. "Back order....trouble getting it from our supplier..." etc. was the official response.

I will say it is something of a miss on Tesla's part to have effectively the same part procurement problem recur. IS SOMEONE LISTENING?

I agree that it is not a big problem, but now we see how it is. Thanks again. If you are testing more I have one last (I think;) question.

The floor panel behind the second row, will that be able to fit just behind the bench, the same way as you can on cars with thired row seats? It would be perfect since those panels always are in the way when you dont need them and vise versa...:)

I am not sure I understand, but yes it would be easy to create a perfectly flat floor yourself, without much trouble. We have taken both panels out and leave them at home. The rear well is great for groceries. Next week I am taking passengers and golf clubs and I will put both panels back in to give me maximum room for the clubs.
