Model X August Deliveries

The saga is finally over. Got my P90DL Model X on August 1st after a very long and complicated journey.
  • May 2015: Placed reservation
  • Jan 2016: Notified that I could configure my order, BUT I had never test driven a Model X, which was important, since I had previously tried and failed to fit into a Model S (6'5" tall). Had to wait until test drive was available before ordering.
  • March 2016: Test drive available for 4 days only, but working 12-hour night shifts, and lived 85 miles away. (Tried for Sunday, but stupid Illinois doesn't allow test drives on Sunday!)
  • April 27, 2016: Finally got to test drive Model X, and ordered a couple days later.
  • June 19, 2016: Was notified that my Model X was entering production. I was told I'd be given progress updates as it moved along. This was important because I intended to get an XPEL wrap done, and wanted to take it straight from the Service Center (85 miles away) to the detailing shop (90 miles away), and they needed a 1-2 week lead time for scheduling.
(NOTE: The status on my My Tesla page never changed, even after production was complete. Just said "you're in the production queue" until after I had taken delivery.)
  • June 29, 2016: First progress update was "Your car is here and ready for pickup." Had to delay pickup, waiting for detailing shop to get me into their schedule.
  • July 11, 2016: On my way to pick up vehicle, got a call from Service Center that the detailing team had found a small flaw. Apparently the factory had chipped the paint on the lower part of driver's door (about "a fingernail sized chip"), and then touched it up with a brush. Turned back home, cancelled detailing shop appointment, and waited for Service Center to properly repair paint chip.
  • July 18, 2016: Delivery specialist from Service Center actually delivered Model X to my house (85 miles) after the paint was properly fixed, and picked up my trade-in.
  • August 1 2016: Made the 90 mile drive to Chicago to drop off vehicle for the wrap. (XPEL Ultimate, full body stealth wrap)
  • August 8, 2016: Finally got the vehicle back from Chicago Auto Pros, and am thoroughly enjoying it.
I'd like to stress that the Chicago Service Center did a fantastic job, and bent over backwards trying to accommodate me. The factory apparently decided not to put out progress updates, and I'm assuming a worker at the factory chipped the paint, and touched it up so as not to get in trouble.

Picked up my Model X 75D today! The wait is finally over... still feel like I'm dreaming. Fit/Finish is perfect if anyone still wonders about the quality. See you at the Super Chargers!

Details: VIN 141xx. Manufacture Date says 7//20/2016 and picked up today 8/13/2016 with AP 1.0 hardware.

Congrats! I ordered a similar configuration as you in March, but my assigned vin is much earlier than yours (117xx) and I'm still in pre-production according to my DS. I'm probably looking at late September delivery.

That's crazy, I confirmed my order 6 months before you and I'm supposed to take delivery on the 19th! Congratulations, I definitely understand your excitement. This week is definitely dragging!
I'm with you guys, I take delivery on the 19th and this has been the longest week ever. But I'm also cutting it really close with the charger. I ordered it 3 weeks ago and it's suppose to arrive on Friday. Hopefully there won't be any issues with the install.

More crazy is I confirmed four months before him, I probably have a VIN# before him, and I'm not even in production yet!

When I put the down payment online, I went into out local Tesla store at UTC in San Diego. I did present/escalate to a sales rep (Brent) at Tesla that my anniversary was coming up, and if they could do anything to expedite it, it would be very appreciated. When assigned to my DS, again I let her knew dates that I would be traveling on business and that I could not pick up for weeks after the 19th and the week after that due to business travel.

I did try everything possible to expedite the process = )
Hope that helps,
