Model X Auto Opening and Closing Door Issues

@Mark Z Hi mark, did your X go in to SC or not yet? If you did, how long is your X staying at the SC?...
With the passenger door latch non-operational, dropped the X off yesterday. Gave the team a lesson on how to lock a Model X when the key fob won't allow it.

Not sure how long Model X will be in service. They did mention that latches are in short supply. I asked about versions and the comment was that a new latch would probably be a couple of versions newer that the last latch they installed!

@Mark Z Mark not to try and derail the discussion but did you get a resolution to the scratch on the windshield. Just curious if you managed to get that corrected. Thanks. Nigel
Not yet. It's only visible under certain lighting conditions. It can be addressed when there is quality time to work on and the windshield is perfectly clean to make it easier for the glass correction specialist to work on.

Thanks for asking.

Drivers side latch stopped functioning last night. There was repetitive 'clicking' of the latch mechanism. Drove home with drivers door ajar holding it for turns to the right. Eventually got it to close after looking at this thread-Thank You. Going to call SC this am. For now entrancing/exiting vehicle through passenger door.

My drivers side latch just failed (I think).

Took it to the SC and they did the key trick a few times to make it work, came home and it stopped working again (repetitive clicks but won't latch)

Tried the key trick but didn't work.

Taking it back tomorrow AM, hopefully they can fix by the end of day as I'm going on a long trip.

All this started after leaving the door open for a few minutes and then manually closing

I'm thinking its a latch issue but don't k ow for certain, hopefully they can relate in a few hours

Went to SC Thursday. Seems that the secondary latch (the one that pulls the door in the last few cm's/locks it) needs to be replaced. Part being sent. Meanwhile learned to push(when outside) or pull (when inside) on the door right after it makes contact to 'assist' it to completely close the last 1-2 cm's. Seems to work pretty well for now.

Could you post a video or describe the key trick. I looked at the original description but was unable to figure out where exactly the key is placed and what action is then performed.

My X went in last Friday because the driver's door would no longer open, unless manually opened from inside. I received my X only 4 days before the door started to malfunction. I'm very disappointed that the engineers could make a system to transfer energy amazingly rapidly from chemical to mechanical form, but couldn't make a door that works right for more than 4 days. So sad. At least the loaner car is a Model S P90DL, so there's nothing to be upset about there. Slamming the accelerator in Ludicrous mode makes me physically nauseous unless I press my head against the seat.

I had issues with the passenger door latching a few weeks ago. Took it to the SC and they reset it and it works now. Yesterday had the issue with the driver side door where it won't open or close. The motor for the door is not operating, you can lock the car with the key fob and you can't open the charge port door from outside the vehicle. I tried to look at the fuse, but I can't find out what fuse number it is?? I have tried all the fixes on this thread, but none worked. Contacted service, but no one available as it is the weekend. Will need to go to the SC tomorrow.

Looks like I get to join the "Problems with the driver side door" club.

3rd day of driving my new X... The car is otherwise nearly flawless...

Today about 5 minutes away from home I stopped and opened the door. When time came to close the door it started twitching and didn't move. I was able to close the door without seemingly forcing anything... The soft close worked on the door once it came close enough.

Once fully closed the door registers a dummy light on the dash telling me the door is open. I called roadside support and they tell my the local service center will call me in the am to bring it in... We did resets of all the screens to no avail. At home I followed the door reset instructions from the forum to no avail...

Scary thing: When you use the touchscreen to unlock the door the interior trim and the drivers side mirror assembly both visibly flex 6-10mm when the mechanism cycles. I m sure it is minor but it doesn't look good to see so many parts flexing...

I the mean time the car will no longer lock from the key fob and the charge port won't open. So I used the touch screen to unlock the charge port and needed to do a manual power off on the touch screen to get everything shut down.

I guess I am getting the authentic *beta user* experience at this time :)

Still loving the car... and setting aside cash to by first in line as a buyer for the "Founders Edition Model X Extended Warranty" -I will take fully loaded in signature red please :)

I've had new behavior crop up recently. If the left or right FWD is open and I get into the drivers seat and touch the brake pedal, as expected the driver's side door auto closes. But the FWD now closes as well. A problem if people still entering the FWD's. Is this a selectable behavior, and if so, how do I turn it off. It's closed on my wife a couple of times, which she naturally blames me for.

Been a few weeks since they replaced the latch on drivers side door....but now the FWD on the passenger side won't close. Anytime I try to close I hear a thud but no latch.

Wife had to drive home with the door partially open and was not happy.

She said if this happens again She wants to return the car. After paying $120k+ I don't blame her....I'm losing points I hope these issues stop

With no extended warranty available yet I hope Elon extends the warranty on the doors to give people confidence

Looks like it's a combination of user error and poor design.

SC said looks like as the FWD was closing somebody (3 year old) may have bumped it so the mechanical latch closed on the fwd closed before actually making contact with the body. Thus it would not latch on subsequent attempts.

I'm thinking this latch should have been electrical and have a better way of knowing if it's actually closed or not and adjust accordingly.

My drivers side door stopped latching over the weekend and a ranger is coming out today to replace it since we don't have a service center in my state. I could move the latch catch and the car would register a closed door, but it wouldn't hold the latch catch in the closed position. The failure was proceeded by a motor and clicking sound that lasted about 10 seconds. I received the part yesterday via Fed Ex, so here are some pictures of the door latch. I'll try to grab the part and serial number of the failed unit when it's replaced. I would love to keep the failed unit for analysis, but they'll probably send it back for their own evaluation.

The door latch replacement took about 1.5 hours to complete. It involved removing the interior door trim panel and an inner door panel to replace the latch unit. Here's the sticker of the old unit. I took some pictures of the door with the interior trim panel removed if anyone is interested in it. One neat tool the ranger had was a switch that he could plug into the ECU in the door that could move the window up and down.
