How do you know that a destination charger spot will be open when you need it? Do you just hope that you get lucky or are you typically able to reserve the spot when you book your hotel room?

I doubt they will "reserve" the spot. The spots are usually marked "For Electric Vehicles only" and you hope they aren't ICEd when you get there. I guess we'll see if others play well with reading/listening to rules :) I'll be happy to park in the farthest away spot if that's where they put the charger, just to have the convenience of the charger. All else fails, the hotel keeps a log of who is driving what, so I guess if someone is parked in the spot and I ask pretty please with sugar on top, they might call the person and ask them to move their vehicle.

In August of 2016 they were producing 2k/week (according to the attached PDF) and I think we can assume that things have sped up for end-of-year. We can also assume that some of the manufacturing steps take significant time -- things like paint drying/hardening, software burn-in, and drive testing. Because of the flaws in their reporting infrastructure I think it's hard to determine how long a car manufacture really takes, but they have to be able to store at least the 2k in there + cars that need extra time + some flex units.

Perhaps but my tracking of vin # assignments that last few months has them possibly giving out fewer Vin #s in Q4 than Q3 with a real softening of MX Vin #s the last couple weeks. Still waiting to see a 32xxx MX Vin# (anyone know of one?). Days per 1000 Vin #s were (8,8,9,10,10) for MX for the last 5000 and for MS has been (6,7,6,5,5,5) for last 6000 and I expect you've all seen the videos of lots full of MS. I believe inventory MS will be offered through some sort of last-couple weeks inventory sale or something. Even tv-ads or similar. But MS is definitely out-pacing the MX in terms of perceived production rates. Almost a 2:1 ratio at this point.

What were your specs? I confirmed mine on 11/22 (9am PST) and got VIN same day (2 or 3pm PST). I am still in queue...

I am:
X75D
5-seat
towing
Black
Cloth/leather seats
Non-PUP
No cold weather
no premium sound
I also confirmed 11/20 and got VIN that same time on MyTesla page. I am still in Queue, and nowhere on my page does it mention ANY TIME FRAME.

I am also a 75D 5 seater EAP, FULL SELF DRIVE, sub zero & tow, tan leather
Delivery for Denver, CO

Oops! Turns out bonaire's consistently negative assessment of Tesla's demand and production is wrong again. Thanks for the data point.

Doesn't change the number scale much - but it is the only vin # since 314xx posted online so far. When MS numbers pop up like popcorn at the rate they do, it's strange to see so little talk about MX Vin #s. And the process of creating a "clean vin" for 2017 destined builds may be in effect. Gaston mentions having one Vin # and getting another in his signature. Is that something that can be clarified?

Gaston, in your Vin # 5YJXCCE22GF0338xx is that GF or HF ? H would be a 2017 build.

Wow. I went into production Monday. Got the call just now that it is done (Friday). On truck Monday, delivery next week to Denver. That was fast. Ordered after ap2 in October. x90d 6seater.
@MX458Dave

Good for you! I'm waiting for a 75D 5 seater that I confirmed 11/20. Still in QUEUE with no mention of date on MyTesla page. I'm in Vail taking delivery in Denver aslo.

Who is your DS? What has your experience been with your DS?

I have a long post in the investor thread on this, but there is no evidence - anywhere - that Tesla has skipped VINs in recent history. Every single time someone notes a VIN gap they show up in inventory weeks or months later. Even if they did, the clean VIN thing would make 0 sense here because Tesla is still assigning VINs that can be built and delivered in 2016.

Finally, the 33,8xx VIN is basically exactly consistent with where it should be given the production rate this quarter. The last entry in my spreadsheet shows a 31,3xx VIN assigned 11/24. 2 weeks later we are 2500 VINs higher, right where you'd expect, given that about 1000 X VINs/week are being assigned and prior guidance shows a late ramp to higher factory output (2400/week overall) exiting Q4.

For everyone coming into this thread now, here are some things we "know" -- as in here are some common wisdom guesses we've made based on the limited data in these forums:

- Production does not proceed in VIN order *at all*.
- Cars that need to be shipped long distances are produced before close ones or factory pickups.
- Part shortages can cause significant delays, some of which happen after the car is "In Production". This is particularly apparent with 5 seat models.
- There are reporting disparities between MyTesla, automated email updates, and DS reports. None of those three are universally more accurate than the other two.
- Delivery Specialists either don't have insight into the status of production once a car is on the line or they are instructed to pretend they don't.
- The average/non delayed production time (in the factory, not shipping) seems to be about 5 days but given the imprecise reporting there's a lot of wiggle room there.

@Ambidextrous
That's a very good summary and consistent what I've noticed lately. Unfortunately the bottom line still remains that Deliveries seem to be consistently , inconsistent ! !!!
