Model X Delivery Checklist

I am picking mine up on 18th. I had an idea to create an actual checklist using OneNote...which is ready to posted.

I'll try to post tomorrow. I just reviewed tonight and it looks good to me.

OneNote has checkboxes that you can check off as you go.

Download ZIP Extract. If you upload to OneDrive or like, you can open on your phone or iPad using the OneNote App in the device's respective App Store. Please let me know if you all like this?

Just picked up my 75D yesterday. Found many issues with the July-2016 production. Most of them are covered in the above checklist. However, below are additional items that we found during delivery/inspection.

1) Front side Skid Plate (make sure and bend under the front hood to check this item)

2) Several dirty spots on UW leather, especially seat buckle latch

3) 7-seater vehicle with the 2nd row bench - middle seat side-trims were very dirty and had a different type of material. Very obvious contrast, but easy to overlook during delivery.

4) This item is covered in the checklist, but look out for FIT issues. They are all over the vehicle, since several components of MX are hand assembled.

Thanks @tomtx37 I am picking up tomorrow. Could you please provide more detail on the skid plate issue?

May I ask your VIN?

My delivery is coming up on 9/17. I live close to Fremont and work only a mile or two away. What if I take the delivery and enjoy it, then check it out at home. Is it required to get the issues on the delivery list?

Yes it is important you inspect your vehicle prior to tendering payment. What if there are scratches/dents and most importantly unfit issues, which are lot for MX. All these items need to be put on 'Due Bill' and signed off by both you and Tesla DS, so that it can be corrected and remain documented. Check wheel alignment as well, as mine was off. Another thing I discovered on a hwy driving over 80MPH, the passenger side front small window is lose and makes a noise which you will not discover during delivery, unless you take it on highway and test it while radio is shut. Now after driving for 3 weeks, many issues are discovered with the sensors in general, specifically, FWD. They are big pain. Doors do not open all the way up even though there are no objects around them. It doesn't happen all the time, but unfortunately happens when you don't expect that to happen. Another issue I discovered is, dead big screen when turning on the vehicle, as I had to soft restart three times within two days. Hope this helps.

It just tells me that you got a lemon. But thanks for the warning.

I am about to purchase an essentially new Model X Vin 179xx from Minnesota. The Model X is very far from where I live and they are going to direct ship it to my house. As part of due diligence on such an expensive vehicle, I have reached out to a TMC member in the area to quality check my Model X. As it is not his vehicle, I do not expect him to put the time and attention into the check if it were his car. As such, what items do you think essential for me to ask him to check from the list?

Conventional driving...take a test drive before signing off the vehicle. I would go on city streets and highway while listening for squaks, road noise, window noise and drive and feel of vehicle with opening FWD at least 5 to 6 times in different set up. All these testing while radio and AC is completely off. FWD sensors are a major issue, while sometimes you may experience rear trunk not opening all the way. My wheel alignment was off and now SC has fixed it as part of a DUE BILL items, which is a promise bill from tesla to fix those items at a later date. I would look for fit and finish very carefully, as 50% of MX is hand assembled. MX is super fun to drive and a big show off on the street. Hope this helps.

It does help. Does DS go with you on test drive? Can they say no?

Is fit finish and alignment main thing to look for?

Very valuable points.
Headed to pick up my MX on Tuesday. My DS says 1 hr. for the entire process (I am not sure how to run through all the various checklist items in that short a timespan - not sure if a test drive is even possible!)

How did you test alignment?

Don't rush through, even if DS says 1 hour. There is NO way, you can finish it in one hour, unless you are so excited like many Tesla owners are when they see their dream car delivered and overlook many items had they spent little more time. 7-seater Ultra White Seat owners need to pay extra attention for lot of dirt on seat buckles and 2nd row center seat trims on both sides. My suggestion is to take extra hands with you while they inspect FF issues (under/over/In/out) while you are going over vehicle's mechanical/electrical operation. Send me private message with your email address and i will send you check list that i had prepared for me with before and after experience.

Hi @tomtx37 ! I'm set to pick up my 75D on Tuesday at the Dallas Service Center! :)

I'd love to hear how you (or anyone else) approach doing a robust inspection while also keeping a good rapport with the team that's going to have to fix any issues that you find. (I've also got white seats :-O )

Should I expect my Delivery Specialist to be open and invite me to do a thorough inspection and have my list of issues? The DS's emails about delivery day have all been about him giving me a tour of the vehicle and teaching me how to safely use it... No real discussion about inspection or a chance to identify any final issues....

Hi @ MajorCuddles: I had put $5K deposit 3 years ago without seeing a demo vehicle. All Tesla showed me was a single picture of a strange looking SUV with falcon wing doors spread out on its website, where I made an online payment. So when vehicle was finally delivered to me, why would I accept it without thoroughly checking and testing the vehicle? I remembered we spent more time in selecting a $5 movie rental at the Blockbuster stores than sometimes inspecting big ticket items.

I believe, it goes without saying that one must inspect their products before accepting it. The DS is correct in his assertion about making you the most satisfied user of his product, though he hasn’t denied nor discouraged you to inspect the vehicle. My suggestion to you is, take couple of people with you. So while you are learning the operation of MX, they can be thoroughly inspecting the fits and finishes of the vehicle’s inside/outside. And when visual inspection/operation of the vehicle is completely done at the showroom, then take the vehicle for a test drive for street and highway experience. I would suggest not to sign off or tender payment until you have done a through road test. Basically, taking a Tesla delivery is not any different than buying a vehicle off the dealer’s lot.

I would admit that DS hadn’t expected so much inspection time from us and at one point, I felt like we were being rushed through the delivery. So to avoid that, I would send an email with my clear expectations and ask him or her to allow at least 2 to 3 hours for the entire episode. I know it may sound crazy to some, but I don’t spend $115K so often. In conclusion, I MUST admit, that MX is a real head turner and a super fun to drive. Kudos to Elon and Tesla team.

Thanks again for the guidance and support @tomtx37
I definitely appreciate the insight. I feel like I should be mentally prepared for this approach (that as much as we all love Tesla, that they a few quite a Toyota for product quality and consistency... yet)

I'll send a note to the DS that will try to be positive! Saying "I've cleared my morning calendar so that I'll have plenty of time to walk through and look over the vehicle and take a test drive before we complete the delivery."

@MajorCuddles: I think that sounds like a better approach. Overall, Tesla folks are courteous and I do not see why they would not attend to customers’ needs. Good luck.
