Ask for some freebies. Did the DS tell you why? This week my DS said they pushed my order back another week - so my order is now running 4 weeks behind the initial delivery estimate when I ordered in mid-January. At least now there's no way I'm getting the old MCU now
I was scheduled to pick up tomorrow at Costa Mesa. Got a call from DS this morning that the car is still in production and have to delay delivery for another week. It’s been in production since 3/12.
My SA contacted me this morning to say they found an identical order to mine in New Inventory (50 miles odo) from a canceled order in Las Vegas - she confirmed in writing this car has the new MCU (VIN 902xx) while my still-not-even-in-production VIN is 935xx). I'll be able to get the car next Saturday.
I was hoping for a mid-April delivery due to the logistics and capital-gains tax advantages for the money I'm using for the downpayment, but she said she might even be able to get me the 0.99% interest rate (and avoid the risk of potentially getting 1.99% or 2.49% interest rate after April 1st).
So I ran the numbers - compared capital-gains taxes with costs from higher interest rates and it made sense to go with this new inventory model rather than wait for my custom order - and told her by text message "Let's do this."
Now to see what happens next!
Wow congrats!!! Nice score with .99 % interest rate.
Well, it's not guaranteed yet - I need to submit the finance application today after the order appears in my account (it's still showing my original order). There's still an opportunity for me to be declined funding - in which case, it was an honor to post on this forum
Haha hopefully everything goes smoothly... Good luck
Picked up my X yesterday. Build date is March 2018, but my vehicle has the old MCU. A little disappointing, but it's the car that I ordered so I'm fine with it.
The delivery specialist was virtually unresponsive to emails and phone calls prior to delivery when I tried to find out details about the vehicle, like the MCU version. If I knew in advance, I would have asked if there were any inventory cars with the same specs with the new MCU and would have gladly taken delivery of that one instead.
Definitely a much rougher delivery experience than when I purchased my Model S because the delivery specialist seems over their head with all of the orders.
Wow. Are you sure that it’s a March build with the old MCU? Not doubting, just genuinely curious. VIN Sticker on door shows 3/18 build, and you ran the web browser checker??
Is it a 75 instead of 100?
Please keep me informed!
Even without the new MCU, still looks the same. It’s not a huge deal.
Woo - my SA told me that she was able to secure the car in Nevada and it appeared on my Tesla Account page a few moments ago:

I submitted the finance application immediately - now I'm on tenterhooks waiting for their reply. The screen said "Within 24-48 hours" - though I was continuously texting with my SA who told me that they'll get in touch long before then and likely within a few hours if not sooner. So yeah...
Now to sit and look pretty for a while until I get declined for some reason
I have it in writing (at least, in an email and text message) that it has the new MCU too.
