Model Y and 3 shared components

I believe Model Y and 3 shared 70% to 75% of components. If that was the case, how would that look for Model 3 highland upgrade? I would think lots of components have changed. I don't see Tesla keeping that up for long as that would be supplychain nightmare.

Does that mean Y upgrade is near? Sometime before this year end?

They’ll want to switch over soonish, this calendar year is probably a decent estimate.

I don’t think it’s a particularly big deal for them to manage separate parts chains for a while and a lot of what’s changed is specific to one model or the other - body panels, suspension, etc.

Y is also much higher volume than the 3 so they might need time to scale up some of the new shared components that debuted on the 3.
