Model Y rear view mirror

Picked my MY up a couple of weeks ago now. Am I correct in thinking the hard plastic edge that surrounds the rear move mirror should come off? If so how do you do it? I’ve pulled at it to the point I’m worried something is going to snap and apart from the corner I’m pulling it doesn’t seem to detach.

Why are you trying to remove it?

removed mine straight away, looks loads better - just pull in the middle of each edge and it will loosen so you can remove

I’m not convinced it is. It doesn’t seem designed to come off and like OP not going to potentially break something on a new car.

If it’s a protective guard shouldn’t it be removed at the PDI and not something you’re left to randomly discover for yourself?

Every car is being shipped with it there, and it's not easy to remove.

Plastic around rear mirror

I finally got my MY - ans so far it seems perfect. However There is Thise lose clear plastic thing around the rear view mirror that seems to rather a bit. Is it just a protection thing that has not been removed or is it supposed to be there?

Yes it should, just like the tyre pressures should be lowered from 50psi

They always seem to leave the protective film on the vanity mirrors too, and the little yellow stickers on the wheels.

Mate, it just pulls off! I did it in the demo car I drove.

It's the same mirror as the Model 3 and it was removed from mine when delivered. The plastic piece is definitely there for shipping / installation protection and can / should be removed.

Here you go. Offending mirror protector in all its glory. Just pops off…. Tesla tech did it today while he was there setting the tyres to the correct pressure

You took the car to Tesla to get the tyre pressures adjusted!?
