Model Y tire rotation schedule

What is recommended and proven rotation schedule, every 5000 or 7500 miles, esp given model y is most of time RWD even under dual motor setup. Thx

BTW - I have a 1983 VW Pickup that I haven't changed the oil in 6 years - If that's any consolation. I do take it out twice a year and get it up to temperature. It averages about 30 miles a year.

I see, I know Tesla does front to back.

Tesla (probably like everyone) is using the tire and rim association (TRA) numbers. The mobile service person told me they cross rotate per TRA (if appropriate) in the shop but mobile service just does front to back.

I've never cross-rotated a car in 20 years. Nobody asks for it.

When I've had tires rotated (because it was free) they didn't ask, they just did the TRA recommended pattern. The place I normally frequent has a TRA rotation chart on the wall.

Yes to each his/her own. About 10 years ago I had a FWD VW. I didn't rotate until 37,500 miles.

My son just traded in his Model 3 with about 30 K miles on it without ever rotating his tires. My new MY is coming up on that 6250 Mile mark for the first rotation as recommended by the Users Manual. I am leaning toward not rotating mine as I don't expect the OEM "feel good" tires to last much beyond 30 K miles anyway. Has anyone on this forum not rotated their tires and had either good or bad luck with the results?

Did your son have a performance M3? Those are staggered with larger tires and rims on the back, making rotation difficult.

Tires can be rotated for free at places like Discount Tire, so why would you not? I see nothing to gain by not rotating tires while rotating them addresses uneven tire wear - should it occur.

The only tires that cannot be rotated are those that are both directional and staggered. But even those can be rotated if you go through the trouble of dismounting and remounting.

I have 41,000 miles on my original Continental tires. I have about 6/32 tread left, with fairly even wear on all 4 tires.

For what it's worth, I rotated once at 18,000 miles.

Did your son have a performance M3? Those are staggered with larger tires and rims on the back, making rotation difficult.

He had the rear wheel drive standard range, a 2018 model. It was all base model stuff at the time including the black color.

6/32nd left after 41k miles, that is amazing, how did you manage to achieve that, these stock tires come in at 9/32nd.

Yup. Scheduled a mobile tire rotation with Tesla. The tech came out, checked the treadwear and taught me how often I should rotate them. If more than 1/32nd difference then rotate.

You will be better off going to a place like Discount Tire, who will rotate for free. They will also give you an appointment time and you will be out in an hour, while Tesla will take much longer (half-day(. Also, if you opt for the mobile service tire rotation they will do a front to back rotation since they do not have the equipment to do a proper cross-rotation, as is recommended by tire manufacturers.

My advice is to never take your car to a Tesla SC unless you have no other options. Buying tires, rotations, balancing, alignments, brakes and suspension work can be done at any competent shop.

Beats me. I probably drive rather tamely, as in no jack rabbit starts, no hard cornering. About half my miles are highway driving, 75-78 when on an Interstate.
