MotorTrend is back with P3D - Track mode and Randy Pobst

MotorTrend once again tested out the Tesla Model 3 with Track mode (released publicly today) and Randy Pobst behind the wheel.

Quick info - Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio is no longer Sport sedan record holder at "Willow Springs".

i thought i read somewhere that the new software with stock tires resulted in 1:23.xx? i can't find it now... i could just be imagining things.

This is amazing. I'm happy I was completely wrong about how fast a Model 3 can go around a track.
1:21.49 Model 3P+ with 245 width Pilot Cup 2 tires and race pads
1:22.78 Alfa Giulia Quadrifoglio (comparable tires to Pilot Cups)
1:23.9 Model 3P+ stock (older track mode)

It's awesome that Tesla hired Pobst to test and abuse the Track Mode, like, finally! Pobst's experience + Tesla's engineering prowess = pure awesomeness.

They did, they just didn't release those results...

It doesn't look like Michelin sells 235/xxR20 Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, so that's likely why Tesla was using 245 PSC2 tires, probably 245/35R20. For those not familiar, these have a wear rating of 180, vs the 300 of the PS4S's.

I don't consider consumables like that as "modifications" personally. The Alfa comes with equivalently sticky/poor efficiency tires.

I wonder if they used even more sticky tires like Toyo R888R’s in 275/35/19 if you can shave another second. I have them on my 3 and it’s night and day difference.

Chevy Camaro SS 1LE driven by unknown is up there. I cant find any references to them getting this lap time though. I find it very hard to believe they are on par with Randy Pobst in a z06 vette

A 93 foot stopping distance and a 1.12 lateral G for the Camaro makes me want to put goodyear eagle f1 super car 3 tires on my model 3. Those are Supercar numbers
