Neck and back pain, driver seat.

From my earlier post in another thread:

I will say that I'm a seating snob, dare I say, I am the Michael Jordan of sitting. I have a lifeform chair for the office, it's one of those million adjustment chairs, and I know how to use it.

Here are my tips:

The faux leather in Tesla is softer and more accommodating and cushiony, and if I had to go without leather, I'd probably do it now, but the ventilated seat option was nice even if it doesn't make a huge difference.

I find that because the seats are the exact same for the model s and x, the height spacer between the two vehicles is the biggest factor in making them feel comfortable.

I have a presaved driver profile labeled "SUV" in my model S where I sit very high in the cabin and have to move my sun visor to the side to see out of the front... It helps on long trips to go between seating options.

Most people don't sit in the correct position, they sit how it first feels comfortable when they first get in a car, and I think this is why a lot of people are fooled into thinking soft cushions are better... this is similar for shoes and mattresses I think.

I think the biggest room for improvement in the model S is in lengthening the thigh support and making a slightly softer bottom cushion.

Until then, try to sit like to this lady... one note, the safest seating position in the car, with steering wheel kind of far, is not ideal for back pain.... 90 degrees is best, because you want to keep your elbows in where you can use your core to steer....

I love the seats! I do have the older ventilated seats, so they may have changed some since then. To me, the grip of the seat results in me sitting in a good posture (not slumping, not with extra space between my low back and the seat back). I did recently drive a newer P90 MS while my car was being serviced and thought that seat felt different and less comfortable. My main take away though was wow, this car is low to the ground and feels smaller than it is. Good for 2, but the back seats have zero leg room. Sure was a joy to get my X back!

My seats seem be more comfortable now. What happened is my car had a shudder vibration with acceleration, so my X went to service center to repair axel. Ever since then the car has been smoother, a bit quieter (but not too quiet on highway) and I dont seem to have as much neck discomfort. Its much better! BTW the performance pedals are an absolute! They are much much much better then the original pedals.

I've also felt a certain amount of discomfort on longer trips. I have the white ventilated seats (Model S premium seats). Had a Model S loaner two weeks ago with the new multi pattern fabric seats. WOW! Those are just so much more comfortable and they really look nice now since they have the exact same shape as the white seats. I drove quite som long stretches in the loaner and the fabric material really gives both more comfort support and you don't slide around in the seat. Also no tendency to get a sweaty back which I always do in the white seats even with the ventilation on. The new MP seats where not available when I got my car end of last year, but if I'd order today the multi pattern seats would be a no brainer. Also cheaper :)

This doesn't help those who feel the leather/vegan seats are to hard, but I highly recommend anyone ordering a new car to really consider the multi pattern seats. They're that good!

There's a bar in the seat itself that goes across the seat, close to the middle front. If you press real hard you can feel it. That is my source of pain. I am looking for some kind of cushion to get.
This is tough because usually this means sitting too recumbent and the weight of your legs is concentrating on the bar and you may be sitting with back of the seat/butt too low, and front of the seat too high AND the seat is slightly too far back from the pedals.... going to thinner heeled shoes often causes this because your seat setting ends up being for someone 1/4 inch shorter in shoes with thin soles. The seats allow for only so many positions in a model S, and I think if you are uncomfortable in an X, you need to have physical therapist show you how it's done.

For me, when I feel the bar, it means I need to rotate the seat forward and raising the butt up slightly, and also possibly moving the seat forward to where you feet can rest behind the pedals on the angled portion of the floor. The S doesn't allow you to rotate the seat forward too much and so this bar is a concern.

More than any other car I've owned, I've learned to adjust the seating constantly in the S to accommodate the thickness of the shows I'm wearing.... it makes a biggest difference, and the seats in a Tesla can be quite comfortable or uncomfortable depending on your body type and ability to adjust the chair. I think the biggest factor in improving seat comfort will be allowing for slightly more height for some users.... the model 3 will be better than the S with respect to front seat comfort because of the hood... And since no one is asking me, I will also say I kind of hope they move to a panoramic windshield in the S and invent a retractable sunshade to deal with glare, so you don't have to pop in the sunshades.
