I had absolutely no luck. crashdatagroup kit is $995. crashdataspecialists sell individual cables and the PCAN-USB adapter for much less, I placed two orders with them on EDRfinder.com , they never responded. I asked the police dept to borrow their cable, no reply. I asked Tesla, they said they will provide the data if police requests it. I asked the PD to request the data from tesla at no cost, no reply from PD. I asked body shop to borrow the tesla service center cable, no bueno. I escalated several times to tesla. Tesla general counsel replied to my emails with lame excuse saying their terms and privacy statements prevent them from sharing with me, WHICH IS A LIE. I called them on it, no reply. I contacted several "experts" through
Accident Reconstruction Experts, Products And Services Directory - Find Local Accident Reconstruction Experts, Products And Services - Trusted Accident Reconstruction Experts, Products And Services Reviews , people either didn't have the cable or didn't want to do it. One person wanted to charge $1000 to download the data, and provide no report. I found some youtube videos on how easy it is to connect the cable myself. I called numerous attorneys, none wanted to help. I called retired police - accident investigators, none wanted to help. I called the insurance company and said - hey why don't you guys pull the data, it's your duty to do a thorough investigation. They didn't reply BUT they suddenly determined me to be at 0% fault, so maybe the threat worked.
One suggestion: tesla can at least tell you whether or not EDR recorded ANYTHING during your event, they can look that up easily and tell you. If nothing is recorded, the whole EDR cable thing is moot. BTW if something is recorded, they can download it over the air.
