New car, delivery madness, car defects, xpel stealth...

Like you and lot others I got very excited for Tesla and paid a deposit for a Model 3 just after Christmas. As nothing different to everyone who waited patiently, Tesla were on zero comms to me until around early-mid Feb - well I was told the car will be delivered in Feb (didn’t happen). Then I called them couple of times about a few things (custom plates, charging questions, etc.) - those were the only communications via phone with them. Everything else were in emails from getting my rego documents to signing off my contract with pepper and final invoicing.

Silly enough Pepper money sent the full amount about a week before pickup and Tesla honoured it - without my approval. Dealing with Pepper was another episode. In short - be clear with your expectations of the loan if you are dealing with Pepper otherwise you might see some surprises. I am on their latest offer of 3.89% interest rate.

Delivery was not great - but it was in the midst of lockdown (last Friday) due to covid. I was the first in list - it was greet at front (Melbourne/Richmond) without any handshake (good), showed me the car/some very basic functions of the car, etc. The delivery “specialist” didn’t bother to show me what comes with the car or didn’t care to explain like the chargers, wall connector, etc. Though he pointed out a small paint chip on the back - I didn’t mind it too much as I was getting it wrapped and it’s only minor, there were more paint defects in few other spots, the alignment is crap, ugh.. it not a cheap car - the panels on left side doesn’t align with right. I hear a tiny air leak via front window on highway (that’s probably something I’ll get it looked into).

Straight from the showroom, it took straight to get the car fully wrapped and windows tinted. I chose xpel stealth which gives the car a satin/matte look. It took the team about 4 days to complete the PPF, tinting and apply ceramic coating. It turned out pretty good. I’ll attach some pics below if you are interested. I live in Melbourne and if you are interested after the covid situation clears up I’m happy if anyone wants to inspect the car and PPF. There are some very minor correction issues on the PPF but they are not visible.

Accessories - yeah I bought the regular stuff- Tesla badge, spoiler, matte centre console cover protector, matte screen protector, Taptes usb hub/qi charger, front & boot carpet, type1-2 plug. Yes the car doesn’t come with trunk hooks :)

It’s a nice car, quality is decent (not as great as my Lexus RX), potholes are very visible, very sporty, super advanced technology built in, fun drive all the time. Respectfully I haven’t driven it anywhere much or showed it around to friends/family due to situation. But I drove a couple of times - zero to holy crap is ridiculous fast and me and wife love it :)

Let me know if you need info about PPF, accessories, buying experience, charging, etc.

Please stay safe and happy driving.

yeah mr. detail took out all badges before applying PPF and put the front one back after - much cleaner way of doing it instead of cutting the PPF around the badges.

They said the 'model 3' badge is difficult to pull out so if it needs go back in a new one needs to be ordered - i didn't want one anyway. I just bought the red performance line which goes under model 3 from Aliexpress as the LR doesn't come with one.

Hi, Before you had the stealth wrap put on your car, did you happen to notice any pearl white paint mismatch between the bumper and the body? If you did, does the stealth hid that?

I don't notice anything different between the panels. Maybe because there isn't any visible difference in the paint colour itself.

There was a small chip on back bumper when I got the car on back. Jason did a touch up with some paint he had before he applied the wrap. I can notice it if I look it up closely even with wrap. I don't mind it too much.

In general I'd say a stealth wrap would cover those paint differences. I can look it up in day light tomorrow and advice if anything different.

Stealth wrap is good and it looks really nice on white paint. You will love it. All the best.
