I’m in Texas and didn’t use a sunshade. What the cabin overheat protection is for. Have mine set at 90

I had put ceramic tint on my previous S' sunroof... definitely gonna add that on the one coming in.
does your S not have cabin overheat protection? Not sure why you need tint if you have it. My car is always nice and cool when I get in it outside in the summer in Dallas

Already have a red car which has dropped 30k in value in 8 months.
The clear roof is pretty compelling though. If my last delivery experience was not so bad, id be tempted.

It’s not clear. Previously the roof glass was about 2% VLT so 5x more light would put it at about 10% VLT which is still pretty dark as far as tint goes.

But somehow the bean counters have found they make more money with glass roofs, probably in manufacturing cost savings and selling broken glass replacements, so unlikely they will offer metal roofs anytime soon.

Might be more expensive to maintain the structural strength (i.e. Gorilla glass). Making parts lighter is a good thing to further increase range or reduce battery size.

I personally dont want my roof to let in more light but I would love to know the exact numbers behind the weight reduction here. I find it dubious that no actual weight was provided.

Lighter forged wheels with substantial weight reduction hasnt significantly speed up the plaid. My prediction is this new glass won’t do squat. Bean counter move.
I wouldn't say that's consensus at all. I like things bright - certainly don't mind sunlight. Don't want the heat necessarily, but supposedly the coating on this glass helps with that.
But I agree; I've wondered why we don't see the same electronically-dimmable glass they use on the Boeing Dreamliner more often. Would be amazing on this roof!
Agree w dmurphy and I love this update, always preferred the lighter glass on the Model Y, and I'm in sunny Southern California (currently not so sunny 
). Previous S roof was too dark it was kinda hard to see the palm trees
With the additional $5k, HW4 cameras and now this I'm glad I didn't take a demo after all, though it's still a great buy and car for anyone that did as they are fundamentally so similar
