Wow! ok. Thats great! Obviously DC fast charge then??
Yes, nominally it is meant to be at least two 300-350kW concurrently and extra two 150-175kW but that might have been subject to some negotiation. Might possibly be the same as the Pheasants Nest Ampol Southbound under the same scheme.

Quite a number of sites for Ampol were under ownership of Charter Hall under some form of lease. Ampol AmpCharge network

Nowra looks to have multiple Charge Point Operators vying for Round 2 funding,
"Council has been contacted by seven CPOs regarding interest in council sites,
including EVIE networks, NRMA, Tesla, Shell Energy, EVX, EVSE and Gemtek.
• CPOs have expressed interest in the initial four Nowra locations identified by Council
and requested letters of support for grant applications to explore feasibility of fast EV
charging infrastructure at these sites.
• Council has provided letters of support to enable CPOs to explore the feasibility of
installing EV fast charging across the sites.
• The letters of support provided by Council are non-binding and provided under the
condition that if the site design is feasible and satisfactory, the site meets Council
Policy criteria, and if parties are able to agree on suitable commercial and operational
terms, the letter of support may be nullified by formal site agreements.
• Round two of these grant applications closed on 10 March 2023 and sites which are
successful in advancing to the next stage of assessment are expected to be notified
within 7 weeks."

I don't think this has been posted yet, but a new kerbside grant program was announced last month.

These grants are part of the NSW Electric Vehicle Strategy and with at least 500 new kerbside chargers will give more EV drivers confidence they’ll be able to charge their vehicle locally, even if they don’t have a private carparking spot.

Anyone heard anything more about Round 2 of the NSW funding.

The original timeline said 7 weeks for Assessment of Applications, then 5 weeks for Contracts Awarded.

That would take you to mid-June, so NSW seem to be a good 6-7 weeks behind.

I emailed the NSW Net Zero transport team asking them about this. Twice. A month apart. Silence was the response.

I am concerned that Round 2 has been put on hold until the NSW Budget is delivered next month. And concerned about what changes might be made to this programme as a result.

Here’s the scoop on what is going to happen to the EV strategy in NSW in the state budget this coming week:
  • $3000 rebate abolished from 1 Jan 2024
  • Stamp duty exemption also abolished from 1 Jan 2024 (this was the ‘quid pro quo’ for introducing the RUC) but RUC remains
  • The above saves $527M over 4 years but will be grandfathered for those who have already ordered and placed a deposit on an EV but may not take delivery until after 1 January.
  • An additional $260M will be pumped into EV charging in the Regions, apartment buildings, and kerbside charging for those who do not have access to off-street parking.

The abolishment of the rebate is good policy. Not needed anymore now that EV sales are approaching 10% and is middle-class welfare. Reinstatement of stamp duty on vehicles is less good policy, but could be argued it was middle-class welfare too. I’m very glad that the Drive Electric programme instigated by the former NSW government is being doubled-down on, because that was the most important part of the strategy, particularly the focus on regional areas, apartments and kerbside charging.

Hopefully with budget certainty, we’ll now see the results of the second round of the Drive Electric grants announced soon.

Do we know what it did to sales in Victoria? Was it 25000 available? How many left? Will there be a mad rush to get the rebate?

We haven’t seen the details of the transitional arrangements yet, but in the olden days, tax changes often used to take effect from midnight on budget night precisely to prevent people going on some sort of mad tax-driven binge in the following days/weeks/months, while still protecting those who had already entered into binding contracts.

My speculation is that people who have entered into a binding contract to purchase an EV prior to midnight Tuesday will remain eligible for the rebate and stamp duty exemption, regardless of when the vehicle is actually delivered. Or they might nominate an end date like 30 September so that people get a couple of weeks notice before the party ends. We have to wait and see.
