Has anyone used an offsite parking lot that charges Teslas for Newark International Airport? It's about 80 miles for me each way. I have done it before and just parked in long term Parking, but never left my X there for a week in potential cold weather. Springfield no longer does the Newark shuttle and I was never able to get an appointment for that anyway. So a good offsite parking lot that has charging for Tesla's would be great.

I saw that, but that is a daily parking lot which is $34/day. I usually park in P6 the long term lot which is almost half that price. Looking at Plugshare the only parking charger I found near Newark International was for Newark Airport Long Term Parking. Electric Charging Stations | Newark Airport Long Term Parking so I will call them and see what the details are. Site says they use ChargePoint. I've never used anything other than Tesla chargers or standard outlets.

It appears that you are coming from the poconos. if so you could take a short detour to either paramus or edison and top off at the SpC before your trip and then if needed after the trip.
Yep, but I don't want to add to the trip, especially coming home. I'd prefer just coming back to a charged car, at least no less than what it was when I take off. I've left my X at Newark Airport for a week before and made it there and back on one full charge, but the weather has been crazy here. A couple weeks ago it was in the 70's, then we had a week of 30's. We had 18 inches of snow here last week. Between the reduced winter range and sitting out in the potential cold for 8 nights I'd prefer a place that charges. I'll try Newark Airport Long Term Parking and see how it goes.

I parked my X at Newark lot P4. They have 120v plugs scattered all over. I went to the deck right below the roof, grabbed a corner spot and just let me car essentially trickle charge while I was away. Over the course of the week, it topped it off perfectly to 90%. Then based on the estimated time remaining, I bump it up to 100% before my ETA home.

It's worked wonderfully several times. I end up at 100%, covered parking, and no worries about the trip or snow.

Got back yesterday at EWR (Newark International Airport), after getting my luggage and exiting the customs area, I called Newark Airport Longterm Parking number and there was already a shuttle that happened to be there. This was the fastest I've ever made it to my car from EWR, but that was probably a lot of luck. My Model X was parked by the drop off and had over 200 miles of range on it. They charged it twice during the week I was away. Once the first day it was there and then the night before I was to pick it up. I had it set to 90% charge limit. It used about 7 miles of range a day just parked which is what I expected in the cold weather. Cost for 8 days of parking was $108 which was cheaper than the airport's longterm lot (P6) and significantly cheaper than the $34 a day in the P4 lot which has EV charging spaces. To have your EV charged you have to use valet parking. All in all I was happy with the service and will be using it again.

I decided to give this a try after your positive review. I left for a week and a half, and it was significantly cheaper than P4; but unfortunately I didn’t have a positive experience and it left me highly annoyed.

When I arrived; I asked them to charge my car. I had about 80 miles left - started with 217 on the day. They said ok and escorted me to the shuttle. Several days later I checked my car...70 miles left. They never plugged it in. Figuring I had plenty of trip, I left it since some said they charge the night before and just kept an eye out for vampire drain.

The day before my trip I checked again. Under 50 miles now. I called them and asked them to charge; they said they don’t charge until the day of arrival.

The morning of...37 miles left. Nowhere near enough to get home and cutting it close to even get to a supercharger. I called them and they gave me grief- you’re supposed to tell us when you drop off. After telling them I did; I saw my car was moved and plugged in. Unfortunately I got a message of “check power source”

12 hours later and multiple calls asking them to check the cable; my car is at 59 miles of range as I’m waiting for my luggage. Still not enough to get home. So now I’ll have to take a 30minute detour down to Menlo and charge for another 30min to an hour. Not exactly a fun thing to do after a long trip and flight.

Other than the charging; the drop off service and shuttle service was good and courteous. But the charge is a big factor; I may give it one more try (everyone has a bad day) but definitely not happy right now.

They seem to lack consistency. The first time I parked there they charged my X several times during the week I was away. Other times they just charged it the night before I picked it up. I called them the evening before to make sure it was charged when I picked it up and it always was. I have used them 4 or 5 times in the past couple of years and haven't had your kind of experience. I hope things haven't changed that much. Will see in December when I need to use them again.

@Yinn I'm taking my 3 to the Newark airport for the first time next week. I plan on parking in P4 but have noticed that the EV charging spots are usually full. Really considering relying on finding a random 120v plug like you suggested. How many times have you done this? Ever been unplugged?

Just a followup. We flew out of Newark for a week at the beginning of December to Germany and left the X at Newark Long Term Parking. I have an account with them and had a reservation for the week. I did go into the office to make sure everything was OK with charging and she made a note on my account. They charged my X twice during the week and then the night before we returned. My X was fully charged (I set it to 100% via the Tesla App from the 80% I had it set to the rest of the week) when I picked it up. Everything went well.

I’ve actually never used the charge points/EV spots in P4. I usually go for several days and feel bad about taking up a L2 charger in case someone else needs it.

Every time I park in P4, I only use the 120V - probably about a dozen times by now. Never been unplugged; there’s usually a handful of other Tesla’s that are 120V plugged in too. There’s a good amount of plugs, I didn’t measure the spacing but several per row and along the outer walls. Your cord is long enough to pull a spot over if needed as well.

Save yourself the headache and go to the very top covered floor. There’s the most working plugs and spots there. But overall it’s become an afterthought. I don’t even see it as hoping I get lucky for a 120V spot, I just assume there will be one since I’ve never lucked out.

Tomorrow, I’m going to try the 120V plugs at the P4 garage that @Yinn suggests.

Will report back my experience after I’m back.

Things didn't work out too well for me. I think under normal circumstances @Yinn 's method would work, but my flight out was late Tuesday night and P4 was the most crowded I'd ever seen it. I drove all around the lot for about a half hour and couldn't find a spot closer than 2-over from a plug. I tried to plug in, but the plug was installed with ground facing up, making the charger hang crazy. It would have also had to drape the cable over one of the cars. I ended up not plugging in and figured if I needed to I would just charge on the way home. In the end, I didn't even need to charge on the way home so it wasn't a big deal.

I fly a lot and usually park in P4. I've never seen it packed all the way to the roof like it was Tuesday night. Chances are finding a 120v plug won't be this hard very often. I'll give it another shot during my next trip in a few weeks.

That’s a bummer! I usually go Sundays, I’ve seen it packed Monday’s but never really up to the top two decks. I’ll have to be more careful now. I plan on giving Newark LTP another chance to see how it works out. Although I’m guessing with 200,000+ Model 3s on the road soon; neither will be a good option in a short while.

A working SC in Kearny would be very helpful too. That would make it 10min away and no longer a worry.

Just got back from my trip and it was mostly a smooth experience. I arrived on Tuesday morning at 6am with about 25% SOC and headed to the top most covered floor as Yinn suggested. The first outlet I found worked just fine and no issues with the ground facing the "wrong" direction. I set my charge limit to 75%, plugged in and headed for the AirTrain.

A few hours before my departure time on my return day, I set the charge limit to 80% via the app and once I landed in EWR I turned on pre-conditioning. Arrived at P4 with my car charged at just under 80% SOC and a toasty 85F in the cabin.

My only hesitation is that I kind of felt like I was "stealing" electricity as its clear those outlets were not installed for EVs...I've heard anecdotal evidence that some airports (I think Logan) will ticket you if they find you're plugged into any 120V outlets at their garages. So its probably a matter of time before EWR does something similar.

In the future, I'll probably just take a Lyft or head to the Kearny SuperCharger upon my arrival (once it comes online). :)

Also, if you are concerned about available parking spaces, you can check this site for data on parking capacity -->Newark Airport.

That’s a good point. Im not familiar with Logan but I see it as L2 chargers are available on the first floor for “free” as the parking fee covers the electricity. So I see it as these 120v plugs as an extension of that for EV charging. I’ll formally ask the next time I’m there
