check with service center to see if they cover it under warranty. I heard a while back that some glass they produced had some defects that would spontaneously crack. This could be one of them?
I wonder if some kind of Xpel or similar protective film on the roof would make a difference.
It works for headlights against rock strikes - why not glass roof?IMHO, I doubt it.
I carry $50 deductible for comprehensive on all 3 of my vehicles for this very reason.Note to self: keep duct tape in frunk.
Seriously - that sucks - sorry for your grief. It makes me think I might want to go back to a $500 deductible after having bumped up to $2k
I got a chip hit the windshield as well. I got it repaired for $50.. but was told by tesla that the windshield was $530 for the part so a little surprised by your figure. What a bummer. Mile 86 and day 4 I got a crack in the windshield. Well over two decades behind the wheel and NEVER had a rock chip let alone a crack! In any event, insurance involved... price is ~$1500 parts and labor.
Will be following your progress on this thread. Good luck and sorry to hear!
This is a vague recollection but as discussed.. I had a small crack on my windshield which was repaired (rock chip) and I had the spontaneous crack on my pano roof (while parked)..My S all glass roof has taken several strikes without issue or chipping. Knock on wood... Might've just been bad luck unless 3 roof glass is somehow thinner.
