Very nice looking MS! Wow, you ordered it 2009. I will never complain about having to wait. You are a man of great patience.

So, tell us about the supercharger. How fast? From what SOC? What kind of charge setup do you have at home????

I left from Springfield MA with a full charge (267 mi/rated range display). Drove south around 60-65 mph (cruise on) and arrived in Milford, CT (southbound) with approximately 180 miles of range left. It took approximately an hour to get the 87 miles of charge back, charging in Range mode. The last few miles of charging will take the longest. Its probably worth adding that this literally was the first drive I have taken in the car, other than a 1/3 mile drive around the block after delivery. Range anxiety existed the first two stops (Milford & Newark), but after that, I felt I had a good feel for the car and how far it would go between charges at certain speeds. The leg between Milford and Newark is where you need to be frugal with the throttle. Even with a full recharge to 265 in Milford, I arrived in Newark with only 25 miles of range. The charge in Newark (southbound) took just under 2 hours in Range mode to get around 270 miles. On the northbound leg (Newark to Milford), I had about 56 miles of range so I guess I was getting better at modulating the throttle and picking speeds. I tried to keep my speeds below 65 for most of the trip, in retrospect, I probably could have driven a little faster.

At home, I currently only have a 120v outlet in the garage. I should have a 14-50 installed shortly. Feel free to PM me with any other specific questions about the trip. Overall I averaged 339 Wh/mi, for 762.7 miles, using a total of 258.5 kWh of energy.

I am very happy with the purchase and now have great confidence in traveling between superchargers. I recommend everyone give it a try!

Appreciate the feedback. I just finalized with expected delivery feb/march. Curious where u stopped and charged in Newark?? I live in NJ so appreciate any feedback on NJ charging locations. Thx!

The grey wheels look great on the blue. I think the 21" silver wheels look too big on the Model S (at least on the dark colors) as they make the car look shorter and smaller somehow. The grey wheels does the opposite, they make the car look longer and sleeker.

Keith, the Newark stop was at the Delaware welcome center/rest area. It is one of the new supercharger stations that Tesla has set up on the East Coast. Their website discusses the details under "Go Electric / Supercharging." If I'm not mistaken its located between exits 1 & 3 on I-95. For now I believe the NJ charging stations will all be the Level II chargers @220/240V at various businesses. Check out the Plugshare, Recargo, or ChargePoint apps to finds some stations near you.

Welcome to the family and be sure to post some pics when you take delivery!

As an EV driver since 1999, I have to stand in awe of this statement. I hope everybody appreciates what an incredible thing Tesla has done with the Superchargers.
Indeed. Now all the funds reserved for fueling the car can be redirected to fueling the driver! Yum!

With the Milford CT Supercharger so close to you (as it is for me - 55 miles from home), to minimize the negative effects of charging in Range Mode, it would have been better to charge in Standard Mode. Then at Milford, do a Range Charge as you did. I think the additional time to charge to Range Mode from having driven there in Standard Mode would not have been that much longer.

I live in Westchester, NY -- getting my car in Feb/March. I go out to Provincetown, Mass every summer which is 280 miles from home. I plan to do a Standard Charge before I leave - get to the supercharger 55 miles later and then "top off" with a Range Charge - just to be safe since I will still need to drive 225 miles more.

Depending on how comfortable I feel with driving the car when I receive it to when I go to the Cape in the summer, I ~might~ feel comfortable doing a Standard Charge in Milford for the remaining 225 mile drive. Lets see what I can get my WH/Mile average to be before then!

I was really hoping that they would have installed the supercharger closer to the CT/RI border... And perhaps they will as they build out the network.

Aaron, that is a good point that you made. With hindsight, the leg between Milford and Newark is probably the only one I needed to use Range Mode. I think I was in "Better safe than sorry" mode, determined to make sure I made the trip without getting stranded. All in all I learned a lot an proved to myself the viability of the model S as a long distance traveler.

Jenna great story and pics.will o find a supercharger! All else - will get pics up that did not post Sunday. Currently in software update as I write and is saying car needs service, there may be a burning smell. Hmmmm... Over to the technical thread for my first visit... Onwards All! And to all, a good night!

Update: no further warnings or burning smell. Bringing for look tomorrow anyway - sticky charge port and I have the well-reported sunroof sticking. Car's a joy a joy a joy. And I can not go anywhere without being asked stopped gaped at. Would like to say celebrity is annoying. But it is not.

You're a new owner, so I can totally understand the "better safe than sorry" idea....

I look forward to my first long trip. I have sisters in Richmond, VA and Ann Arbor, MI (355 and 620 miles away respectively). With the East Coast Superchargers in place, I can definitely do the Richmond, VA drive as soon as I get my car. Will have to wait for the I80 Superchargers to do the Ann Arbor trip though!

My plan is to visit the sister in Richmond, VA shortly after I get my car feb/march... I'm due for a visit!

Maybe you can drive up to Rockport and get some pics with Motif #1 in the background. then over to Gloucester for one in front of the Fisherman Statue...
that will help hold me over (and make me homesick) until I get my much delayed delivery... I can't believe that no one wants to deliver a car to Hawaii in the winter.
