Did get the invoice for the car in january. still not payed as i still just have a "middle of march" and no date for delivery. Interesting experience buying a luxury car from Tesla. Extremely bad info and logistics.

Did you get your invoice 1.5-2 months before delivery?

dont like to moan but the experience is not optimal at all... wonder if there is anyone at Tesla that is interested in the customer experience of buying a model S (Euro perspective) ?

You typically don't pay for the car until it's rolled off the assembly line. At that point your my tesla account will get a new button that says Enter Payment. If you are financing externally, this is typically handled between your bank and Tesla.

I was asked to pay 1 week before delivery, the car was basiclly put on the auto transporter and shipped to the local Tesla Service Center.
I imagine for overseas delivery, the logistics might be very differerent... or it could mean your car is on the boat, and will be arriving early :)
I would call Tesla and ask...

AFAIK. Overseas (EU) cars are final assembled over there. So I would suspect you aren't going to be paying for your car before then. However, contact your DS (delivery specialist) and ask him for an MVPA and wire instructions if you want to get the payment out of the way.

I have the instructions but not going to pay until I get a delivery date. Why would i pay 130K USD before Tesla can even tell me when they can deliver the car? Yes talked to delivery specialist but he still cannot give me a specific date. Find this a bit amazing to be frank... ;-) Get a feeling tesla is not ready to ramp up production with this logistics / customer communication issues not solved...

Will tune in when I get an update. Assume the quartely reports is the most important thing so with that they will want to dump me the car before end of March... ;-)

I orderd my Model S and confirmed Dec 18, 2013. I was asked for payment in full Jan 27, 2014. I paid without ?. My estimated deliver is week of March 10. My dashboard now reads. Delivery Specialist will contact you with delivery time.

well I dont pay for things until i get them. i would rather want to pay the car the same day as delivery after inspecting it. But I understand that I need to pay before delivery. But not paying months before. my delivery specialist had no comment on that so no issue it seems...

I had the same experience. I am making a very small down payment and most of it is financed. My delivery is still a month away but I got the payment instructions last week. I have already made the down payment (I know I could have waited until delivery date) but will finalize the loan and have the bank cut the check when the car is ready for delivery. I also found it to be odd that Tesla customers are given payment instructions so far in advance even before car has gone in production, let alone ready for delivery!!

    (this is pure speculation)

Perhaps, Tesla is trying to get the 1st quarter deliveries set, the 1st quarter ends 3/31/2014, so they are sending out the payment notifications early,
so people have time to get their financing in place, and some will just pay early. Makes for better 1st Quarter results :)
Remember a lot of inventory is tied up in shipping (especially to the EU), if some of your customers pay ahead, that's less inventory on the water...

Tesla sent me an email about 2 weeks prior to delivery for the MVPA. Sent it back by email. Then brought a check and picked up the car. It is a different experience, but it was pretty positive for us.

We are picking up MS #4 in two weeks. I plan on showing up at the SC with a personal check exactly as I did for 1-3.

My wife ordered the exact same configuration as the one that was hit (and subsequently sold). She ordered White/Tan/Solid White Roof/and Gloss Wood. Her taste in a husband may be questionable but boy her car configuration is gorgeous.

Your wife's MS is a lot like my configuration

Is she getting the coil suspension again? What's her opinion of coil vs. air?

We did coil for hers as she prefers the higher ride height and the added parking stop clearance that comes with it.

As for the comparison, her coils were the primary reason I removed the air from my P+ and replaced it with coils. Air is good for certain things but coils excel at providing feedback from the road.

I'm picking up on 3/21 from the factory. I have been provided paperwork and I also provided financing info. So I do have the ability to pay now, however I don't intend to pay till much closer to the date.

VIN 32808, expected delivery 3/17, dashboard says "sourcing parts." I got the invoice today, and there is a "make payment" button, probably because I provided the financing information. I believe in holding on to my money as long as possible, unless there is an early payment discount. I like lolachampcar's practice of showing up with a check. That gives the most flexibility, if the car is early or late. I can see initiating an electronic payment if production is finished, because then delivery to Chicago burbs and payment may coincide, but I'm not going to pay 19 days early.

Quick question with a little relevance to this. How long after you confirmed or before your delivery were you assigned/contacted by a DS?
