Did you ever drive a car that was a little out of alignment or the tires were worn so as to produce a continuous drift in one direction. The light force necessary to correct that is what is successful on the M3. It can be either hand in either direction and with a little practice you can do it without thinking or disconnecting auto steer. The weight of your hand resting at the wheel crossmember is sufficient.
