How much and where did you get them done? Im in Chicago and looking to do this. Do you know if it harm the tires or anything else?
I had them done at Wheel Tech in Skokie, which is just north of the Tesla service center. I'm very pleased. No damage to the tires and they were balanced perfectly by them. I mounted them myself and recently took them off when I cleaned the tires, wheels and coated the rims with Gtechniq C1. They don't coat the inner aspect of the spokes, but I suppose that's OK. Unless there is some functional risk, I'm not going to get uptight about it.
Cost was $150 per wheel and I paid extra to have the valve stems and Center caps painted. I think it was around $700 total.
I will likely bring my Rial Luganos to them for powder coating. Can't decide if I like the gunmetal or the anthracite grey more.
I would go with powder coating. Generally speaking, it's more durable and offers more protection over paint. On the other hand, you might have more options in terms of color if you paint.
$150 per wheel is a reasonable price. A&E is gouging you if they are charging $1500. Might as well get new wheels for a bit more at that price.
I was able to dismount my wheels and deliver, so whomever you choose may change you extra for taking off your wheels. I got my wheels done at Wheel Tech in Chicago. They did a great job and mounted the tires and balanced the wheels for me. I put the wheels on back at my house. Balance is perfect as far as I can tell.
My Product Specialist recommended Seattle Wheel Service but I haven't done too much independent research yet. Their only negative review on Yelp is one person who was unhappy with the bill, but not the quality of work. As I get closer to my delivery, I'll look into it some more, but my PS was pretty hardcore into cars and customization so I feel comfortable taking his recommendation.Any recommendations for powder coating wheels in the Seattle area? Thanks.
I'm planning on either powder coating or painting my 21" wheels satin black. Does anyone recommend one or the other, and a shop to do this in Los Angeles? I've gotten one quote from A&E for $1,500 for powder and $1,200 for paint, and another from Tag Motorsports for around $500 -so a lot of variation. Everything I've found online says it should be more like $50- $150/wheel...
For those who went dark but got the Tesla T in the middle in silver/chrome... was that anything special or difficult for the shop to do? I'm sure every request comes with a cost, not worried about that, I assume any decent shop will have the capability to do it.
Definitely want to request that when I get my hands on my car in December... maybe I'll show them a picture and just tell them "like this please"
