Pre-conditioning/Defrosting

I'm not 100% the difference between pre-condition and defrost, but defrost doesn't hold back on energy consumption when activated!!

-4 today, the car was pulling the max 7KW from the wall plug with defrost activated.

At that power use it will likely just be the heater as that can pull 7kw. Given defrost sets the heat to Max.

In practice unless you are in a hurry setting the heat even to 21 clears everything in 10 minutes

I know this is an old thread but I couldn’t find a newer one!
My car is garaged so never gets a frosty start.
In the olden days I could heat the cabin and seats and defrost independently as needed.
Nowadays with my heater settings on manual for feet/face/windscreen @ 21°, it always defrosts front and rear and puts both front seat heaters on full bore. I thought it should only do that on auto!
is what it does based on temperature or is there a setting I’ve missed?

One thing I noticed this winter is that the motor stators no longer kick in if the charger isn’t connected. So the battery won’t precondition on pure battery alone when stationary. I think this is a good change.
