Questions about Home Delivery Experience?

So my experience was pretty different. Maybe because I initially went to Rocklin to take delivery but ended up rejecting it due to some issues. After they addressed those, the car was ready a week later. This time I opted for home delivery. I was skeptical but turned out great. Car arrived in shiny showroom condition (45 min drive). The delivery guy took the time to explain everything, show me how to do stuff, created driver profiles, setup the app on my phone etc. I had not paid a dime (except $2500 deposit) up until this point. He then explained the total payment breakdown with taxes and fees. I wrote him a personal check on the spot and he left on an Uber. Very smooth and positive experience.

As others have said - they will not even schedule your delivery until it is paid in full. Mine has been at the closest service center, out of state, only an hour way, for two weeks. It took me about a week to get everything done for the financing. They received payment in full this Monday and have been told that the third-party delivery is secured and I will get my car by 3/31, but I haven't received an actual date yet.

Also, in my neighborhood, the truck can't actually get to my street so I have to meet them at a local gas station so I don't have a true 'home' delivery. For our first 3, the driver took it off the truck, had me sign a single doc confirming delivery, offered to put the plates on, and handed me the keys. As an enthusiast he offered to show me how to get in and drive with the key card, but don't expect any kind of walk through.

After not hearing anything about my delivery that was supposed to happen by the 31st I emailed my advisor to see what was up. Turns out the VIN on my dash doesn't match the VIN on my doorsill (what????), so they have to order a new VIN plate for the dash. She did not have an ETA. She offered to find a matching car but how can I get a different car when all of the financing and car insurance was done with the original VIN? This smells of BS almost as much as the 3 week delay to our first delivery. To have this happen both times is so frustrating and they really need to work out the logistics better for home deliveries of that's the future and only option for owners in states without delivery centers. Can't wait to see how long we have to go with one car. Sorry for the rant, I'm just really pissed right now.

I am losing patience. My car has been sitting in Charlotte since last weekend. Tesla evidently cannot find a carrier to deliver it. I just emailed to ask if I can pick it up myself. i am not seeing the urgency to get cars delivered by quarter-end that I have read so much about.

I have an electrical engineer that works at the Gigafactory delivering my car in 30-45 minutes here in Texas. I think they got all hands on deck and have run out of hands. Crazy they flew in some of their team to our local service center for delivery.

FWIW, the salesperson who gave me a test drive should be delivering my car here in RI (where there are no Tesla stores, hence mostly home deliveries) later today. I'm not certain, but I get the impression that salespeople don't normally do such things, and I got the impression that they really want to get it into my hands this weekend. Sadly, that doesn't include paperwork -- I won't get that until Tuesday or Wednesday, so I won't be able to register the car and drive it until then. :(

I got the paperwork 2 days ago and I assume I will just be giving it to them when they arrive and be good to go.

I was referring to the paperwork required to register the vehicle. The way it works in Rhode Island, which may not be the same elsewhere, is that Tesla drops off the vehicle, most likely without the papers proving it belongs to the buyer. That paperwork is most often FedExed out later, once the payment clears. Thus, the car sits in a driveway or a garage for at least a (no doubt frustrating) day or two before the owner can go to the DMV to get plates. For some reason, despite the fact that I submitted an ACH payment on Tuesday the 26th, I won't get my paperwork until at least a week after that date. That's just part of Tesla's new way of selling cars, I guess. Like many other aspects of Teslas, they've thrown out the bathwater, and on occasion the baby's gone out the window with it.

That stinks. Mine showed up with temp tags for 60 days and all that goodness. Hopefully soon for you!

I take it back. I just got word that Tesla will give me a free wall charger and arrange a rental car if I pick it up in Charlotte tomorrow. Can't wait.

Having watched delivery threads of cars going to different states, all I can say is I wouldn’t want that to be my job coordinating. Especially with all the different state rules and licensing and registration issues. Throw in a lender, trade in and moving the car around for delivery in states that won’t let them sell so customers unfortunately have to deal with the end result and coordinating all that during a quarter’s final weeks.

Are folks asking for Tesla to make good with wall chargers or merch or are they offering? I don’t usually like to ask for anything but our delivery experience has been terrible for two cars now, I’m quite a bit more frustrated this time around.

In my case, I asked for nothing. The same "deal", that MarkSC got, was presented as an option to me, completely unsolicited. Being that I was going to be already leaving town for the weekend, I did not need the rental.

Inadvertently, I got some quality seat time,in my new car, to become accustomed with all it does. Didn't turn out to be a bad deal. ;-)

Looks like I’m having the same experience as some of you. Delivery scheduled for today. “You’ll get a call from the carrier when they’re inbound”. It’s almost 6:30pm CST. no call, no car. Of course it’s Sunday and nobody works on Sunday (they claim they do...but I am not convinced as I couldn’t get a human to answer my calls or emails.)

Beyond irritated at the moment. Even Fiat can deliver a car when promised...trying to remain rational.

I received good news today -- my Tesla is scheduled for delivery. But I'm somewhat confused.

The Tesla web portal shows delivery at the Service Center on August 6, but the email from the delivery specialist said that I "will be taking delivery via Carrier Direct" to my home address and "Please note for Carrier Direct delivery: Tesla cannot provide a specific date or time. After the vehicle has been fully funded and has arrived at the delivery center, the time frame is generally about 7-10 business days until the car be delivered to you, but can be longer or shorter as we work with a 3rd party vendor (trucking company) and can be subject to their timeline, weather delays, or other factors. The delivery appointment in your Tesla account is only a placeholder and is not a guaranteed delivery appointment as it is subject to change."

i have posed the question to the Delivery Specialist, but curious what your thoughts are -- are they delivering the car to the Service Center or my home, and is the date August 6 or sometime between August 15 to 20? At least one other post in this thread indicated that the website will always show the delivery center's address, even if the "Carrier Direct" method was used -- if that's the case, then the car is being delivered to my home on August 6. Any chance that it will be at a Service Center earlier? If so, I may drive down to pick it up.

I took direct carrier delivery at home also. It showed the Service Center that I ordered through also for delivery. The date they had for delivery listed there did end up being my delivery date. Its a placeholder but it tends to be an okay estimate too. As long as nothing else delays the delivery process you will most likely take delivery around that day.

The car gets delivered to the Service Center first, it gets checked over there and then is given to a 3rd party shipper who takes over and works with you for delivery. My 3rd party carrier was actually really good at keeping me updated and working with me to set up a delivery spot (the truck carrying my car couldn't fit back where I live, so I had to meet them at a more accessible place).

I, like you, live some distance from the closest delivery center, so I took home delivery last summer. I strongly recommend that you pick the car up at the delivery center if at all possible. My car arrived filthy inside and out, and it had to be sent back to the service center where it spent ten days to correct a fault (failure to charge). This turned into a huge hassle that could have been largely avoided if I had had an opportunity to inspect the car at the delivery center and demand that these issues be corrected prior to hand over. BTW, the car cleaned up beautifully and has been completely trouble free since then. It's a great car and I love it, as will you, but Tesla must correct delivery and other after sale issues that are tainting the brand.
